Assos Equipe RS Johdah Winter Jacket S9 TARGA Info

The Assos Equipe RS Johdah Winter Jacket S9 TARGA is Assos's second-skin winter jacket, cut with the same racing fit the brand builds into its WorldTour kit and engineered to manage temperature and moisture as your effort level swings on a cold ride. Rather than one uniform layer of insulation, the Johdah jacket uses varying weights of Assos's SPHERE softshell membrane across the body, insulating on easy efforts and opening up to breathe as intensity climbs, so the jacket adjusts to you instead of trapping you in a fixed amount of warmth.

That temperature regulation runs deeper than the outer shell. OSMOS fabric, in varying weights, handles breathable warmth in the areas away from direct wind exposure, while a 3-layer ZiggyZaggy foam adds further insulation without piling on bulk. When you're pushing hard enough to generate real heat, a diffuser system at each shoulder opens dual valves to vent warm, moist air before it turns into a damp chill on the descent. A built-in neck warmer — essentially a mini gilet across the upper chest and throat with an offset zipper — closes off the one gap most winter jackets leave exposed, and layers cleanly under a base layer or gilet without the zipper digging in.

Storage is built around Assos's Triple Ramp Pockets, sized larger than a standard jersey pocket with an extra flap of fabric to keep gels, tools, and a phone secured on rough roads, plus a fourth zippered pocket for anything you don't want bouncing loose. An internal gobaPok pocket holds an Assos THERMOBOOSTER or ALLEYCAT layer for an added buffer on the coldest days. The jacket's blend of polyamide, polyester, polypropylene, and elastane is built to hold up at the top of Assos's wind-protection scale while still flexing with a hard effort, making this the kind of jacket you reach for once temperatures drop into the 20s and 30s and staying warm can't come at the cost of overheating on the climbs.

The RA Perspective

The Johdah is Assos at its most serious about winter — this isn't a jacket you throw on for a mild 50-degree spin, it's built for the rides where the temperature actually bites and you need a shell that keeps up when the effort level swings between a steady tempo and a hard climb.

What stands out is how much the jacket does with layered materials instead of just piling on insulation. The SPHERE panels and the shoulder diffuser system mean you're not choosing between staying warm and overheating on a climb — the jacket is designed to do both depending on what you're asking of it. The built-in neck warmer is a small detail that solves a real problem: cold air sneaking in at the collar on a fast descent.

At $750, this sits at the top of what a winter jacket costs, and that's worth being upfront about. You're paying for Assos's racing fit and a genuinely engineered temperature system, not just a warm shell — riders who mostly ride in moderate cold or who want a looser, more casual fit may not need to spend this much.

We'd point this at a rider who trains through real winter and wants one jacket that handles a wide range of effort without swapping layers mid-ride. For that rider, the Johdah earns its price.
