Lake MX333 Shoes Info
The Lake MX333 MTB Cycling Shoes are Lake's premium off-road performance shoe — designed for cross-country racers, trail riders, and gravel athletes who need a carbon-stiff platform without giving up traction the moment they unclip. Lake has been building cycling shoes for over 40 years, and the MX333 brings the same upper-tier technology found in their road line into a shoe built for mixed-terrain demands.
The outsole is 100% carbon fiber, engineered for stiffness and power transfer through the pedals. What separates the MX333 from a conventional carbon sole is the addition of a rubber off-road patterned sole and TPU lugs — giving genuine grip on technical terrain. The lugs are designed to accept toe spikes, which makes a real difference on loose, rooty, or cyclocross-style ground where standard MTB sole traction falls short. This is an outsole built to work both on the bike and off it.
Upper selection gives you two options. Helcor leather is the durable choice — abrasion-resistant and suited to riders who push through brush, rocky descents, or technical trail sections where the shoe takes real punishment. Clarino Microfiber is the lighter synthetic option; it fits slightly tighter with less stretch, which some riders prefer for a locked-in feel from the first ride. Both versions share the same internal architecture: a Carbitex Medial Support panel along the arch for lateral stability under load, and an Outlast temperature-regulating liner at the heel and tongue that absorbs and releases heat to keep the interior temperature consistent. The Thermaform Carbon Fiber heel counter is heat-moldable, allowing you to customize the heel hold to your foot — Lake draws this from the same technology used in their flagship CX403 road shoe. Fit is dialed in via dual BOA Li2 closures — one at the forefoot, one at the instep — with micro-adjustment in both directions and built-in abrasion resistance.

Design Benefits
- Off-road capable carbon outsole: The rubber sole and TPU lugs give the MX333 grip on loose, rocky, and rooty terrain without sacrificing the stiffness of a full carbon platform.
- Toe spike provision: For CX racing or technical trail riding where traction matters as much off the bike as on it — a detail that separates a true trail shoe from everything else.
- Upper choice matches the terrain: Helcor leather handles abrasion from brush and rocks over the long haul; Clarino Microfiber prioritizes weight savings and an immediate snug fit.
- Outlast thermal management: The phase-change liner moderates temperature inside the shoe rather than simply venting it, reducing heat buildup on sustained climbs and warm-weather rides.
- Custom heel hold: The heat-moldable Thermaform heel counter eliminates heel slip, which directly improves power transfer and reduces fatigue on long efforts.
The MX333 is the choice for riders who take off-road performance seriously — whether that's lining up at an XC race, chasing gravel segments, or logging long trail days where the shoe needs to work as hard as the rider does.
