Lake CX403 Speedplay Shoes

The Lake CX403 Speedplay is Lake's previous flagship road shoe, configured with a 4-hole cleat pattern for riders running Wahoo Speedplay pedals. It's built on the CX/TX Race Last — a slimmer, performance-oriented geometry with a narrower toe box and tighter heel than the Competition last — and brings together Lake's most refined upper construction: Klite Kangaroo leather combined with Carbitex OmniFlex Carbon Fiber Stabilizer Support panels. The result is a shoe that conforms to the foot like premium leather while the Carbitex panels prevent the stretch and lateral flex that undermine power transfer in softer-upper shoes.

Carbitex OmniFlex is what sets the CX403 generation apart from its predecessors. These are flexible carbon fiber panels integrated into the kangaroo leather upper at key structural points — they stabilize the foot against lateral movement under load, control upper stretch over thousands of kilometers, and contribute meaningfully to the stiffness-to-comfort balance without adding the rigidity of a traditional hard shell. The interior is lined with perforated kangaroo leather, which adds a layer of breathability and a premium feel against the foot that synthetic liners don't replicate.

The outsole is Lake's Custom Fit Carbon Fiber sole — heat-moldable at the full sole level, not just the heel counter. With careful application of heat, the sole can be shaped to conform to the unique contours of your foot's bottom, addressing the high-arch or low-arch geometry that a flat sole never fully accommodates. A separate moldable carbon fiber heel counter locks the rear of the foot in place. Closure is handled by dual side-mounted BOA dials for two-zone micro-adjustment across the midfoot and instep.
