The RA Perspective

The compliance built into this rim is the thing that stands out most once you're actually on the trail. It's a strange feeling at first for a race wheel — most XC wheels are pitched as stiff and fast, full stop — but the HiTop layup genuinely takes the edge off chatter and small hits in a way that lets you stay relaxed and carry speed through rough sections instead of getting bounced around.

The winged bead is a quiet feature but a real one. We haven't seen pinch flats on this wheel in situations where a narrower-bead rim would have been at real risk, which matters if you're racing or riding somewhere with exposed rock.

Worth knowing: this rim is tuned specifically around 2.35-2.4 inch tires and bikes with up to 130mm of travel, so it's not the wheel to grab if you're running narrower XC race tires or a longer-travel trail bike — it's built for a specific kind of modern cross-country riding, and it's at its best right in that window. TyreWiz 2.0 is a nice addition, but it's one more thing to charge and maintain, which is worth factoring in if you don't want extra gadgets on your bike.
