Chris King Precision Components was founded in 1976 in Santa Barbara, California, when a young engineer set out to build a headset that wouldn’t fail — and then kept going. By the time the company relocated to Portland, Oregon in 2003, Chris King had expanded into hubs with the patented Ring Drive engagement system, bottom brackets, and precision bearings. The founder was inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 2006, and the company earned B Corp certification in 2020. Today, the majority of Chris King products are still made in-house at the Portland facility — the ARD44’s recyclable FusionFiber thermoplastic rims being the latest expression of that same long-term thinking.
