Wolf Tooth 130 BCD Gravel / CX / Road Chainrings Info

The Wolf Tooth 130 BCD Gravel / CX / Road Chainrings were among the first 1x-specific rings developed for cyclocross, and they remain a benchmark for riders looking to simplify their drivetrain without sacrificing chain security. Built around Wolf Tooth’s proven Drop-Stop® tooth profile, these chainrings have expanded well beyond CX into gravel, commuting, and even dedicated road applications.

At the core of the design is a carefully engineered wide/narrow tooth pattern that balances chain retention, efficiency, and longevity. The wide teeth maximize contact on the drive side to distribute load and extend ring life, while the narrow teeth provide the clearance needed to shed mud and debris. The result is a quiet, stable drivetrain that performs consistently across mixed terrain and changing conditions.

Design Benefits

  1. Excellent Chain Retention: Alternating wide and narrow teeth help prevent derailment, even on rough terrain.
  2. Extended Chainring Life: Wide tooth contact spreads load across the chain for improved durability.
  3. Debris Management: Narrow teeth provide space for mud and grit to clear, reducing friction.
  4. Versatile Application: Ideal for cyclocross, gravel, commuting, and select 1x road builds.

Compatibility & Setup Notes

These chainrings are designed for 130 BCD 5-arm cranksets and do not fit Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 or Ultegra 6800 cranksets. They are not compatible with Campagnolo CX 10/11 systems. SRAM Exogram cranksets with an inset nut require the stock fifth bolt and spacers, as used on Force CX1 setups.

Stock 2x chainring bolts will not work for single-ring mounting. A dedicated 6mm single-ring bolt set is required. The ring can be mounted in either the inner or outer ring position of a double crankset, though the outer position is most common due to chainstay clearance. Chainline typically sits about 2mm closer to the frame compared to a stock big ring.

38T Note: On some cranksets, the chain may lightly contact the spider arm with the 38T ring. This can be addressed by lightly chamfering the spider arm or allowing the chain to self-clear during initial use.

Final Take

The Wolf Tooth 130 BCD Gravel / CX / Road Chainrings are a proven choice for riders committed to a 1x drivetrain. With durable materials, reliable chain retention, and thoughtful design details, they deliver the confidence and simplicity that modern gravel, CX, and road riders demand.
