The RA Perspective

The AR 29 is the wheelset we point riders toward when they say they're upgrading for climbing, not sprinting. The shallow 29mm depth and 1,455-gram weight make a real difference the moment a road tips upward, and the 10-degree hub engagement means you're not waiting for slack to wind out of the freehub when you stand up out of a switchback.

Because the internal rim width is 19mm, tires sit a little wider and rounder than they would on an older, narrower rim, so if you're running a 25 or 28mm tire tubeless, expect it to measure a touch wider than the label says. That's a good thing for comfort and grip, but worth knowing if you're picky about tire clearance on your frame.

This isn't an aero wheel, and it shouldn't be judged as one. In a crosswind it's more composed than a deep-section wheel, but on a flat, fast group ride, a rider on a 50mm+ aero wheelset is going to have an edge. Where the AR 29 earns its price is on routes with real climbing, where that weight savings adds up mile after mile.
