Juego de ruedas de disco Mavic Ksyrium SL Info

Following in the footsteps of the Ksyrium Elite and Ksyrium Pro, the Mavic Ksyrium SL Disc Wheelset is the latest version of a lineage that's defined high-performance aluminum road wheels for years. Mavic built it as a single wheelset that can handle daily training mileage and weekend races without asking a rider to compromise between the two — light enough to feel quick, durable enough to hold up to real road use.

The rim is made from Maxtal, an aluminum alloy exclusive to Mavic that the brand states offers a higher strength-to-weight ratio than conventional 6106 alloy, and it's manufactured in Mavic's own aluminum rim factory in France. Mavic's ISM4D machining process removes material between spoke holes while keeping the rim wall thick where spoke tension and stress run highest, bringing the finished rim down to roughly 400 grams. That construction makes the Ksyrium SL Disc about 120 grams lighter than the previous Ksyrium Elite UST Disc it replaces in the lineup. Fore technology keeps the upper rim bridge solid rather than drilled, which removes the need for rim tape and saves roughly 30 grams per wheel on top of the weight already saved elsewhere.

The double-butted spokes carry a patented elliptical shape that Mavic states can save up to 5 watts through reduced drag, and they're laced in a two-cross pattern with brass nipples. At 22mm deep and 19mm internal width, the rim supports Mavic's updated UST Road tubeless system, and a reshaped rim bed makes mounting and removing tubeless tires noticeably easier than older tubeless setups that fight the installer the whole way. The rim is rated for tires from 23mm up to 62mm wide, which covers everything from a fast road tire to a wider all-road setup on the same wheel.

Mavic's Infinity hub platform controls spoke tension and lateral stiffness more precisely than earlier hub designs, and it's paired with the Instant Drive 360 freewheel and QRM Auto automatic bearing preload for quick engagement and bearings that don't need periodic adjustment. The Ksyrium SL Disc is engineered specifically for disc brakes with a Center Lock-only rotor interface, running on 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru-axles that convert to quick release with optional adapters. The freehub ships standard for Shimano HG road, with separate conversion kits available for SRAM XD, Shimano MS, and both Campagnolo ED and N3W drivetrains.

Mavic rates the wheelset to ASTM Category 2 — road riding and light off-road use with jumps under 15 centimeters — and to a combined bike-and-rider system weight of 120 kilograms. That combination of specs positions the Ksyrium SL Disc as a wheelset built for a rider who wants one dependable set for everything from weekday training rides to weekend club races, without needing a separate lightweight race wheel and a separate durable training wheel to cover both jobs.

The RA Perspective

The Ksyrium name carries real weight in aluminum wheels, and the SL Disc lives up to it. What stands out most is that Mavic didn't chase a lighter wheel by cutting corners on durability — the ISM4D machining and Fore rim bridge construction both save real weight while keeping the rim's strength where it actually needs it, at the spoke tension points.

The updated UST Road tubeless system is worth calling out specifically. Older Mavic tubeless rims had a reputation for being a fight to mount tires on, and the reshaped rim bed here genuinely makes tubeless setup and tire changes easier — that's not a small thing if you're the one doing it trackside or on the side of the road.

The tradeoff with an alloy wheelset like this is that it won't have the same aero profile or ride feel as a deep-section carbon wheel — riders chasing maximum aerodynamics for racing should look at Mavic's carbon lineup instead. But for the rider who wants one wheelset that handles a Tuesday training ride and a Saturday club race equally well, that's exactly the right compromise.

We'd point this wheelset at a road rider who wants genuine Ksyrium performance and reliability without paying for a wheel more specialized than they actually need, and who values easy tubeless setup as much as they value low weight.
