The CX242 is the shoe we reach for when a customer walks in and says they've tried everything. Wide feet, bunions, high instep, asymmetrical foot shapes — we've seen it all, and the CX242 solves more of those problems than any other shoe we stock.

The six-zone upper is the key. It's not just a marketing claim — you can genuinely feel the difference when you tighten the BOA dials. Each section of the upper moves independently, which means you can apply pressure where you need it and back off where you don't. For someone with a bony prominence or a sensitive spot that every other shoe rubs, that's a real solution, not a workaround.

The Competition Last is worth understanding before you buy. It's designed for high-cadence road riding — more toe pitch and heel lift than Lake's Sport last, with a tighter heel cup. That geometry works beautifully on a road bike under load, but it's a different feel than a more neutral last. We always recommend customers try them on if they can, or size carefully using Lake's fit chart.

The heat moldable heel counter makes a meaningful difference. We've had customers come in for a quick molding session and leave noticeably happier with the fit — it takes maybe ten minutes and eliminates most heel slip issues entirely.

At $429.99, the CX242 sits below the CX333-N but doesn't give much up on performance. The carbon sole is genuinely stiff, the BOA system is precise, and the construction quality is exactly what you'd expect from Lake. For riders who've been making do with a shoe that almost fits, this one is worth the conversation.
