ENVE SES Aerobar Info

Enve has enlisted aerodynamicist Simon Smart, his real name, to help them design aerodynamic components. When you see the SES designation on this SES Aero Bar, it is for Smart Enve System. And this is one impressive feat of design. There's so much going on in order to accomplish something that is straightforward, a single integrated bar system that will work for all people and all riding styles.

As you can see, it's a combined basebar and extensions in a single package. Despite being locked into the single design, you have amazing flexibility. The aerodynamic wing carbon-fiber base bar is built completely separately from the extensions and they mount to the base through unthreaded holes completely bored through the bar. They did this so the base bar has two positions. There's a position where the base drops 21mm and then you flip it over and the base rises 21mm. Likewise, the internal cable routing holes exit at identical spots so it's easy to thread through regardless of which way you have the base oriented.

The extensions clamp on to the base with an aluminum clamp. And there are three sets of spacers (5mm, 10mm, 20mm) to rise up the pads/extensions or run the pads on the bars and lower the extensions—stack height variation can be from 29mm to 102mm depending on how you run the clamp and the spacers, or lack thereof. You can even run the pads on top of the bar and the clamp and extensions below the bar.

And the pads can be run narrow or wide and the clamp on the inside or out. The narrowest pad width is 12.5cm, the widest 20cm. The extensions can even be tilted up or down by fifteen degrees. The extension clamp set on narrow will be 86mm between bars, while on wide, it will be 173mm between bars.

The carbon-fiber extensions themselves are equally flexible. This is a two-in-one design; they come long and you can cut them down into S-bends, or J-bends. Enve has marked the bars with cut lines complete with 10mm measurements so you know where to cut. The extensions come with end plugs for the back of the bars, which you'll want to put in as they help as guides for the cables exiting.

The Enve SES Aero Bar has a 31.8mm center clamping section. The base bar width is 40cm measured center to center. It can work with both mechanical and electronic shifting systems as well as mechanical and hydraulic braking systems.
