The Continental Mountain King II ProTection Folding Clincher Tire offers all condition confidence along with the security of tubeless ready enhanced by flat proofing.
They’re able to offer so much because the carcass can do so much. They start with three wraps of 60tpi casing, and overlap a fourth under the tread. This gives the sidewalls more flexibility and the tread more protection. Then they add a flat-repelling ProTection layer under the tread. Then they line the interior so it’s tubeless ready. The foldable Aramid bead is shaped to be tubeless ready thanks to the rubber chafer wrapped around it. And they finish by making the sidewall a tiled RaceFlag design, which is protective and still flexible.
Then they move on to the tread. It’s molded from Conti’s Black Chili compound. It has silica in the rubber, which has been found to not only add stickiness to the ground, but also increase life. The tread pattern has central knobs spaced close together and at different angles to bite into loose stuff and give you a firm hold on the ground. Then, there is open space between the central knobs and grippy outer knobs. These, too, are designed to bite and hold.
Continental designed this tire with full-suspension bikes in mind. As such, the volume is served with the intention of making a tire that can complement the added grip and comfort that having controlled give at both front and rear wheels can bring.
