Garmin Tacx Smart Trainers

Garmin Tacx Smart Trainers

Tacx was founded in the Netherlands in 1957 and spent decades as the industry's quiet standard-setter for indoor training equipment. The brand introduced the first smart trainers with ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity, then developed the NEO — the first direct-drive trainer with no physical transmission, generating resistance through electromagnetic induction alone. Silent, accurate, and capable of simulating road surface textures through its virtual flywheel, the NEO set a benchmark the category still measures itself against. Garmin acquired Tacx in 2019, and the lineup now integrates directly with Garmin head units, Garmin Connect, and third-party platforms including Zwift and TrainerRoad.

At RA Cycles, the Garmin Tacx collection covers every level of indoor cycling. The Neo Bike Plus is a complete smart bike — no road bike required. The Neo 3M is the current flagship direct-drive trainer, with multidirectional motion and virtual road surface simulation. The Flux 2 delivers direct-drive performance at a more accessible price. The Galaxia T1100 open roller suits riders who prefer a natural, balance-building ride feel. Trainer mats, sweat covers, front wheel supports, and trainer-specific accessories complete the setup.

About Garmin Tacx Smart Trainers

Tacx was founded in the Netherlands in the 1960s and spent decades building training equipment that serious cyclists could trust. The brand pioneered smart trainer technology, developing electromagnetic resistance systems that deliver accurate power measurement and road surface simulation. Garmin acquired Tacx in 2019, combining Dutch trainer engineering with Garmin’s GPS and connectivity expertise. Today the Garmin Tacx lineup integrates tightly with Garmin head units and the Garmin Connect platform for structured training, power analysis, and virtual route simulation. Tacx started as a bike shop in Wassenaar, the Netherlands on May 1, 1957, founded by Koos Tacx Sr. In 1972, the company began manufacturing roller cylinders for indoor training. By 2014, Tacx launched the Smart series — interactive trainers communicating via ANT+ and Bluetooth with proprietary software and third-party apps. The NEO followed as Tacx's engineering milestone: the first trainer with no physical transmission, producing resistance through electromagnetic induction with no drivetrain components to wear out, calibrate, or replace. It was accurate, silent, and able to simulate road surface textures — cobblestones, gravel, wooden boards — through a virtual flywheel. Garmin acquired Tacx on April 1, 2019, integrating the Dutch engineering team with Garmin's GPS and connectivity platform.

The current lineup at RA Cycles spans four trainer types. The Neo 3M is the flagship direct-drive unit — multidirectional motion with built-in forward/back travel and side-to-side tilt, both toggleable independently, delivering the most realistic indoor ride dynamics in the Tacx range. The Alpine Gradient Simulator pairs with the Neo 3M to physically tilt the front of the bike in sync with virtual gradient changes. The Neo Bike Plus is a fully self-contained smart bike: no mounting of your own bike required, with electronic shifting simulation and a fully adjustable fit across a wide range of rider sizes. The Flux 2 is a direct-drive trainer at a lower entry point, with accurate power measurement and full smart connectivity for Zwift, TrainerRoad, and Garmin Connect. The Galaxia T1100 is an open roller — no resistance unit, no fixed axle, just the bike balanced on three cylinders for a natural ride feel that improves handling and pedal stroke.
