Van Rysel RCR Force AXS Bike Info
The Van Rysel RCR Force AXS is built around what Van Rysel calls "lightweight aero" — a race bike designed to hold its own in the wind tunnel without trading away the climbing weight that decides hard races. Van Rysel is Decathlon's dedicated cycling brand, the company that equips the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale WorldTour team, and the RCR is its benchmark road platform. RCR stands for "racer." The frame is high-modulus carbon, the aerodynamics developed through computational fluid dynamics with ONERA — France's national aerospace research organization (Office National d'Études et de Recherches Aérospatiales) — and the build ships with Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels and SRAM Force AXS. At 7.7 kg in size medium, it makes a strong case at $6,499.
The aerodynamic work on the RCR is more systematic than most. Van Rysel and ONERA optimized each tube's cross-section across the yaw angles riders actually encounter in real conditions — from -15° to +15° — rather than tuning for the zero-yaw scenarios that overstate aero gains in most simplified tests. Topological analysis informed material placement throughout the frame, concentrating high-modulus carbon where stiffness and power transfer matter and removing it where it would only add weight. The finished frame weighs 830 grams in size M (painted), the fork 380 grams, with tire clearance to 33mm. TOUR Magazine tested the RCR in the GST wind tunnel and published: "So far, no other model has been faster and lighter in the GST wind tunnel, making it one of the ten fastest bikes in the TOUR test."
The groupset is SRAM Force AXS D2 — fully wireless, 12-speed, with a Quarq power meter integrated directly into the crankset. The 48/35T chainrings pair with a Force XG-1270 10-33 cassette for a range that covers flat criteriums and hilly road races. Total drivetrain weight with the power meter is 2920 grams; both derailleurs run independent batteries and the SRAM AXS app handles setup and ride data. The cockpit is a co-developed DEDA x Van Rysel Superbox EVO stem paired with a DEDA Superzero RS carbon handlebar, with widths running from 400mm center-to-center on XS/S up to 440mm on XL. SRAM Force hydraulic disc brakes run 160mm rotors at the front and 140mm at the rear. A Van Rysel carbon seatpost with a -15mm offset and Fizik Antares 140mm saddle complete the build.
The Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels are the standout component of this spec. At 58mm deep with a hookless, tubeless-ready carbon rim, the 404 Firecrest arrives updated with the ZR1 hub — improving freehub engagement and reducing friction at the freehub body. The 23mm internal width is optimized for 28mm tires, and the pair weighs 1470 grams, competitive for a rim depth that delivers genuine aerodynamic savings on open road. The tires are Michelin Power Cup 700x28, the same model used by the Cofidis WorldTour team, built around a 3×120 TPI carcass with Michelin GUM-X compound and Aramid Shield puncture protection. Tubeless valves are included; Van Rysel recommends the tubeless setup. With hookless rims, maximum pressure is 73 psi — a strict limit.
The Van Rysel RCR Force AXS road bike comes in Snowy White, available in XS through XL. Pedals are sold separately. The geometry is race-oriented — designed for riders comfortable in a committed position — though the carbon cockpit and saddle combination keeps it manageable on longer days. For a cyclist who wants a wind-tunnel-developed aero frame, a full power meter, Zipp wheels, and wireless shifting in one build, the RCR Force AXS is a precisely specced, coherent package.
