Colnago TT2 Frameset Info

The Colnago TT2 Frameset is Colnago's current time trial platform, developed at the direct request of UAE Team Emirates-XRG to give Tadej Pogačar a TT bike that climbs as well as it holds a flat time trial line. It replaces the TT1 and was built with weight savings as the primary goal rather than chasing aero numbers alone, a shift in priority that came straight from the team riding it in competition. At $7,500, the frameset comes complete with the fork, base bar and stem cover, aero seatpost, integrated bottle system, headset bearings, and thru axles, everything needed to build a complete time trial or triathlon bike around a single cockpit and frame package.

Colnago's monocoque carbon construction on the TT2 cuts a claimed 550 grams from the frame, fork, and seatpost combined compared to the outgoing TT1, with an unpainted size S frame kit weighing 2,240g against the TT1's 2,785g. That weight reduction came from simplifying the carbon layup rather than adding material in places the previous frame didn't need it, and it matters most on time trial and triathlon courses with real climbing, where a lighter bike closes the gap that a pure aero frame gives up on a grade.

Aero Development

Colnago didn't sacrifice aero to hit that weight target. The front end saw the most attention: a slimmer head tube with softened trailing edges, a redesigned fork with a wider crown and shallower blades, and a narrower 360mm center-to-center base bar that cuts frontal area and drag when accelerating out of corners or through technical sections of a course. Colnago worked with the Politecnico di Milano to validate the changes, embedding pressure sensors directly into a prototype frame to measure surface pressure in the wind tunnel rather than relying on drag numbers alone. The result is a claimed 2 watts of drag reduction at 50 km/h, averaged across yaw angles, on a frame that's also considerably lighter than what it replaced.

Integrated Cockpit and Storage

The frameset ships with Colnago's TT2 base bar and stem cover already matched to the frame's front end, along with an aerodynamic seatpost available in 0mm or +22.5mm offset to dial in saddle position for a time trial or triathlon riding stance. A Colnago aero bottle cage and matching bottle, both using FIDLOCK magnetic attachment, integrate into the frame's front triangle to keep hydration accessible without adding drag the way a standard cage and bottle would. The fork uses a 25mm steerer with fully integrated cable routing to flat-mount disc brakes, keeping the front end as clean as the rest of the frame.

The frame runs a BSA 68mm bottom bracket, clears tires up to 30mm with 4mm of clearance, and uses 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear thru axles. Geometry spans four sizes, XS through L, with stack and reach ranging from 468mm/385mm at XS to 523mm/430mm at L, seat tube angles of 76.5 degrees on XS and S stepping to 77 degrees on M and L, and a consistent 75mm bottom bracket drop and 408mm chainstay across every size. The steep seat angles push a rider into a forward, TT-specific position rather than a compromise road-bike angle, which matters for anyone spending real time in the aero bars.

This frameset suits a serious time trial or triathlon racer who wants Colnago's current WorldTour-proven aero and weight package rather than a triathlon-specific frame built around comfort. Aerobar extensions aren't included, so a buyer will need to source those separately to complete the front end, but everything else needed to build a race-ready TT bike, from the seatpost to the integrated storage, comes in the box.

The RA Perspective

What stands out about the TT2 versus most time trial frames is that the story behind it is about weight, not just watts. UAE Team Emirates asked Colnago for a lighter bike because Pogačar's TT courses aren't all flat, and that's a real problem most WorldTour-level TT frames don't solve, since most manufacturers keep chasing marginal aero gains on frames that are already plenty fast. Losing over a pound off the frame, fork, and seatpost while still cutting drag at the front end is a genuinely different approach.

The integrated FIDLOCK bottle and cage system is worth calling out because it solves a real annoyance on TT bikes, reaching for hydration without breaking your aero position. It's a small detail, but it's the kind of thing that shows up in a race when you're twenty minutes into an effort and don't want to sit up.

One thing to flag for a buyer: this is a frameset only, and aerobar extensions aren't included, so budget for those separately when building it out. We'd point this frame at a triathlete or time trialist who's serious enough to want a WorldTour-proven platform and is comfortable building a complete bike around a frame kit rather than buying a full build off the shelf.
