Cervelo P 105 Bike Info

Cervelo P 105 Bike is the entry point into Cervélo's P-Series triathlon platform, which shares its frame development, wind tunnel time, and testing with the brand's flagship WorldTour time trial bike, the P5. At $5,300, this build pairs that shared frame with a Shimano 105 mechanical groupset, making it one of the more accessible ways into a genuine triathlon-specific bike rather than a road bike with clip-on bars.

The P-Series frame uses a D-shaped steerer tube with a round stem interface, a deliberate departure from the fully integrated, proprietary cockpits found on many high-end TT bikes. That means you can run whichever basebar and extensions suit your position, and change them later if your fit or preference changes, which matters more on a triathlon bike than a pure TT bike since triathletes often fine-tune their position over multiple seasons. Cervélo also increased tire and wheel clearance on this generation, cleaned up the cable routing, and added the brand's first internal frame storage on a triathlon bike, all aimed at making the P-Series faster and more practical for long-course racing, not just criterium-length time trials.

This build runs a Shimano 105 R7100 mechanical groupset, including a 105 crankset with a 4iiii Precision single-sided power meter built in, 52/36 chainrings, and an 11-34 cassette for a wide enough range to handle hilly courses as well as flat time trial efforts. Because clip-on aero extensions don't have room for standard shift levers, this build routes shifting to microSHIFT bar-end shifters mounted at the ends of a Profile Design Wing alloy basebar and clip-on extensions, a setup common on mechanical-groupset TT and tri bikes. Riderever carbon brakes with Shimano Centerlock rotors handle braking, Vision TC60 wheels provide a reasonably deep, aero-shaped rim without the cost of a carbon tubular race wheelset, and Vittoria Corsa N.EXT tubeless tires round out the rolling stock.

Triathlon-specific practicality shows up throughout the rest of the build. Cervélo's in-frame storage rolls hold a spare tube and flat kit inside the frame rather than in a saddle bag, a rear hydration mount and front computer mount keep nutrition and data within reach without breaking your position, and a Smartpak top tube bag adds additional storage for race-day nutrition. A single Profile Design carbon bottle cage and a Cervélo Tri Saddle, shaped for the forward-rotated position triathletes ride in, complete the build.

The Cervelo P 105 is available in Haleakala and Abyss across six frame sizes from 48cm to 61cm. For a triathlete who wants a real aero platform, not just a road bike with bolt-on bars, and who'd rather put their budget toward wheels or a proper bike fit than an electronic groupset, this is the bike we'd point them to first.

The RA Perspective

This is the bike we recommend most often to triathletes doing their first bike upgrade from a road bike with clip-on bars. The P-Series frame is a real aero platform, developed alongside Cervélo's flagship P5, and it shows in how the bike holds speed on flat and rolling courses compared to a road bike wearing aero extensions.

The mechanical 105 groupset and bar-end shifters take a little getting used to if you've only ridden hydraulic disc road bikes with modern shift levers, since you're reaching to the ends of the extensions to shift rather than using a remote shifter under your fingers. Once you're used to the reach, it works reliably, and the tradeoff is a meaningfully lower price than the electronic builds further up the P-Series lineup.

The D-shaped steerer and round stem interface is a genuine advantage for anyone still refining their position. Unlike a fully integrated cockpit, you can swap basebars or extensions later without replacing the whole front end, which matters if your fit changes as your training load or flexibility changes over a season.

We'd point this bike at a triathlete doing sprint through half-iron distance racing who wants a dedicated aero bike without spending flagship money. If you're racing full-distance events and want electronic shifting under race fatigue, look further up the P-Series lineup instead.
