We've sold a lot of deep carbon wheels, and the honest truth is that most riders don't need 85mm in the rear. But for the ones who do — triathletes on flat to rolling courses, time trial riders, or criterium racers on flat circuits — the 858 NSW is the best tool Zipp makes. The Sawtooth geometry isn't marketing language. We've had customers come in nervous about handling a deep rear in wind, then come back genuinely surprised at how stable the 858 NSW feels compared to other deep wheels they've ridden. The Hyperfoil nodes and HexFin dimples are doing real work.

The hookless tubeless design is a meaningful upgrade over older hooked rim versions. Running a 30mm tire at 60–65psi on a hookless rim is faster on real roads than the same rider running 25mm clinchers at 100psi. The 23mm internal width pushes you toward the tire sizes where that benefit is most significant, and the ZR1 SL hub is among the smoothest-rolling setups at this level — ceramic bearings make a difference you can feel in a coast-down or a long descent.

A few things to know before you buy: this is a rear wheel only — the front is sold separately. Zipp specifies a minimum 28mm tire and a maximum 73psi, so if you're used to running narrow tires at high pressure, you'll need to rethink your setup. Running the 858 NSW correctly matters as much as choosing it. Set it up properly and it's one of the fastest rear wheels available.
