The RA Perspective

Lightweight wheels are one of those products where you have to put them on a bike and ride them to understand why they cost what they cost. The spec sheet tells part of the story — 1,230 grams, monocoque carbon, made in Germany — but the feel on the road is what converts people.

The acceleration is what gets mentioned first. Every time. There's an immediacy to how these wheels respond when you put power down — no lag, no flex, just the bike moving forward. That's the R2R construction doing what Lightweight designed it to do: a continuous carbon path from rim to rim with no mechanical interfaces to absorb or diffuse energy. You feel the difference most acutely out of corners and at the start of a sprint, but it's there on every pedal stroke.

The 48mm depth is a genuinely versatile choice. Deep enough to give you aero benefit at race pace on flat roads, light enough that you're not fighting crosswinds on exposed climbs. For a rider who wants one serious set of wheels that handles a wide range of conditions well, the Obermayer EVO makes more sense than a very deep aero wheel would.

One thing buyers should know: the 18.2mm internal rim width is on the narrower side by current standards. These wheels are designed for 25–28mm road tires and work best with tires in that range. If you're running 30mm+ gravel-adjacent rubber, there are better-matched options.
