The RA Perspective

The first thing that stands out about the AG28 is the 28mm internal width — noticeably wider than a lot of gravel wheels in this price range, and it makes an immediate difference once you get a 45mm-plus tire mounted up. The tire sits supported rather than mushroomed out over a narrow rim, which translates into more predictable cornering when the surface gets loose or rutted.

The hookless bead does what ENVE says it does. We haven't had pinch-flat issues running these at lower pressures on rocky terrain, and the tubeless setup seats cleanly without much fuss. The 21mm rim depth keeps things low and compliant, so washboard and chatter get absorbed instead of rattling straight through the frame — noticeable on long gravel days where that fatigue adds up.

Worth knowing: the Foundation hub is a simplified version of ENVE's premium hub internals, not the same hub you'd get on their G Series wheels. It's reliable and low-maintenance thanks to sealed bearings, but it's not the fastest-engaging hub out there, so riders coming from a high-end aftermarket hub may notice a touch more lag out of tight corners or technical punches.

We'd point this wheelset at a gravel rider or bikepacker who wants ENVE's carbon construction and lifetime warranty without paying G Series prices, and who's running wider tires rather than a narrow 32mm race setup. It's the wheelset we reach for when durability over rough, remote terrain matters more than shaving the last few grams.
