Scott Gambler RC Bike Info
The Scott Gambler RC Bike is the product of years at the top level of downhill racing. RC stands for Race Carbon, and every engineering decision in this bike reflects that mandate: HMX carbon construction for maximum stiffness at minimum weight, Scott's 6 Link Kinematic suspension delivering 200mm of precisely controlled rear travel, and a geometry package tunable for the specific demands of each track. This is the bike Scott's World Cup athletes race when the course is steep, loose, and demanding — and it's the same tool available to riders who want to bring that same level of engineering to their own descents.
Scott's HMX carbon is the brand's highest-grade fiber, reserved for applications where weight and stiffness tolerances are non-negotiable. The 6 Link Kinematic suspension architecture controls rear wheel movement through a six-point linkage tuned to manage anti-squat, anti-rise, and progression simultaneously, delivering consistent and predictable behavior across the full travel range. What separates the Gambler RC from most downhill bikes is the breadth of the geometry adjustment: head tube angle runs from 62.5° to 63.5°, chainstay length adjusts between 460 and 464mm, and BB drop spans from -14mm to +1.5mm. At race level, that range is the difference between a track-specific setup and a bike that's fighting the terrain. On a tighter, more technical track, a steeper head angle and higher BB keep the front end engaged. On a wide-open, high-speed course, slackening out and dropping the BB shifts weight rearward for stability through compressions.
The front end runs a FOX 40 Factory fork at 210mm travel — 10mm more than the rear — with a Grip X2 damper providing independent high- and low-speed compression and rebound adjustment. Kashima-coated stanchions reduce friction and extend service intervals. The 52mm offset and 20x110mm boost axle conform to DH race specification, paired to a Syncros-Acros semi-integrated headset with ±5mm of additional reach adjustment built in. The wheel format is mullet: Race Face Atlas 29" tubeless-ready up front on a boost axle, 27.5" at the rear on a 12x157mm Super Boost axle. The larger front wheel rolls over obstacles with greater authority and carries more cornering traction; the smaller rear reduces rotational mass and tightens steering through technical sections.
Drivetrain is SRAM X01 DH — 7-speed, 36T chainring, SRAM PG-720 11-25t cassette, X01 DH trigger shifter. Stopping power comes from SRAM Maven Silver 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes front and rear. The RaceFace Atlas crankset runs 165mm arms. The Syncros cockpit spec includes the Hixon 1.5 DH bar at 800mm width with 20mm rise and 8-degree sweep, mounted to a DH1.5 direct-mount stem at 50mm. Tires are Maxxis Assegai 29x2.5 DH in 3C Maxx Grip up front — maximum cornering purchase — and Maxxis DHR II 27.5x2.5 DH in 3C Maxx Terra at the rear, where durability under heavy braking matters more than outright grip. Pedals not included.
Design Benefits
- HMX Carbon Frame: Scott's highest-grade carbon fiber, used where stiffness and weight margins are tightest. The Gambler RC chassis transfers power from suspension input directly into controlled, predictable behavior — no flex, no energy loss in the structure.
- 6 Link Kinematic Suspension: A six-point rear linkage that manages anti-squat, anti-rise, and progression simultaneously across 200mm of travel. The result is suspension that stays active under pedaling, resists brake dive, and doesn't bottom out harshly — consistent behavior whether you're in the middle of a track or at the end of it.
- Adjustable Geometry: Head angle, chainstay, and BB height are all independently adjustable. Riders can dial the Gambler RC to suit different track profiles and personal preference — tighter and more agile for technical courses, slacker and lower for high-speed terrain.
- Mullet Wheel Setup: 29" front for rollover capability and cornering traction, 27.5" rear for reduced rotational mass and tighter steering. A pairing increasingly common in World Cup DH racing for exactly those reasons.
- FOX 40 Factory Grip X2 / Kashima: The benchmark DH fork. Grip X2 damping provides four-way independent adjustment, Kashima coating reduces stiction in the stanchions, and 210mm of travel covers everything a race course puts in front of the front wheel.
Final Take
The Scott Gambler RC is an uncompromised downhill race bike. HMX carbon, 6 Link Kinematic suspension, FOX 40 Factory up front, SRAM X01 DH, and an adjustable geometry system that lets you tune the bike rather than accept what the manufacturer decided. The mullet wheel setup and Maxxis DH tire pairing complete a spec sheet that reads like it was built for the World Cup — because it was. At $9,299, the Gambler RC is for riders who want their equipment to be the last variable on any descent.
