Van Rysel RCR Pro Ultegra Di2 Special Edition Bike is the performance flagship from Decathlon's in-house road brand, and the name is not subtle about its intent: RCR stands for "racer." This is Van Rysel's most advanced aero road bike, built for riders who want the combination of aerodynamics, low weight, and stiffness that racing actually rewards, without the pricing of a boutique European frame.

The frame is RCR Pro Super High Modulus carbon, a step up from the fiber used in the standard RCR, and it's built specifically for riders pushing the bike hard rather than cruising it. Van Rysel developed the aero shaping with ONERA, the French aerospace research center, running computational fluid dynamics analysis alongside wind tunnel testing and laser tomoscopy to refine the frame's curves. Van Rysel's own testing cites a TOUR Magazine review from July 2023 that called it one of the ten fastest bikes in the publication's wind tunnel test, noting no other model at the time had been faster and lighter in the same GST wind tunnel.

Weight got the same scrutiny as aerodynamics. Van Rysel used topological analysis during development to strip material from the frame and ancillary parts wherever it wasn't doing structural work, and the payoff shows on the scale: this build comes in at 16.2 pounds (7.35 kg) in a size medium with a tubeless setup. To get the stiffness back without adding weight, Van Rysel sourced high-modulus carbon fiber from Japan and placed it deliberately through the frame's load paths, so power at the pedals shows up as speed rather than flex.

The build matches the frame's intent. Shimano's Ultegra Di2 R8150 derailleurs and R8170 shifters run the shifting, paired with a 52/36 Ultegra R8100 crankset and an 11-34 cassette, which gives you a real top-end gear for flat-out efforts and enough range to survive a hilly finish. The crankset carries an InPeak dual-sided power meter built in, so you're getting real-time wattage without bolting on a separate unit. Ultegra R8170 hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm front and 140mm rear CL800 rotors handle stopping duty, with more braking bias up front where it's needed under hard deceleration.

Swiss Side Hadron³ Classic 550 wheels round out the aero package, a mid-depth carbon rim built to hold speed on rolling terrain without turning twitchy in a crosswind. They come wrapped in Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR tires in a 28mm width, and the frame will clear up to 33mm if you want more cushion or grip for rougher pavement. The cockpit runs a Deda VR RCR Combo integrated bar and stem for a clean aero front end, a Van Rysel RCR carbon seatpost with 15mm offset, and a Fizik Antares 140mm saddle, with an integrated headset keeping the head tube junction tidy.

The Special Edition comes in Midnight Blue, in sizes XS through XL, with seat tube angles running 73.5 to 74 degrees and head tube angles from 72 to 73 degrees depending on frame size — race-oriented numbers that put you low and forward rather than upright. At $6,374 to $6,499 depending on size, it undercuts most carbon aero bikes with a comparable Ultegra Di2 build and integrated power meter, which is where Van Rysel has built its reputation: race-bike performance without the race-bike markup. This is a bike for the rider training for something specific, whether that's a fast group ride, a local crit, or a season of racing, who wants a frame built around going as fast as possible for as little effort as possible.
