Bianchi has been building bicycles since 1885, making it one of the oldest bike manufacturers still in production, and the Specialissima name carries that racing pedigree into a modern carbon frame meant to perform on a mountain stage in the morning and a flat, wind-exposed group sprint by afternoon. It's a road bike built around versatility rather than a single riding scenario.
The redesign behind this generation of Specialissima started with a specific problem: how to gain aerodynamic efficiency at climbing speeds without adding weight back into the frame. Bianchi's Reparto Corse answered by redistributing carbon layup toward the front of the bike, pairing ultra-thin seatstays and slimmer chainstays with a more generously shaped head tube for cleaner airflow. The fork sits integrated into the frame in the same style as Bianchi's Oltre RC aero bike, tucked close to reduce drag, while a D-shaped seat tube and seatpost carry that aero profile through the rear of the bike. Bianchi says these changes add up to measurable time savings on sustained climbs, with even larger gains on flat terrain compared to the outgoing Specialissima, and the development process leaned directly on feedback from Bianchi's WorldTour team riders who wanted a bike that stayed efficient once the road flattened out.
Bianchi frames this around what it calls the threshold — the gradient at which the Specialissima becomes the faster choice over Bianchi's dedicated aero bike, the Oltre RC. Bianchi says that threshold drops as rider power output drops, meaning club-level riders see the Specialissima pull ahead of a pure aero frame on shallower climbs than a WorldTour pro would need before the switch pays off. It's a detail that matters less as a marketing number and more as a signal of intent: this frame isn't a climbing bike wearing aero touches, it's designed to genuinely work across a wider range of terrain than a single-purpose race bike would.
This build pairs that frame with Shimano's Ultegra Di2 groupset — electronic shifting through Ultegra Di2 R8150 derailleurs and R8170 shifters, run off a 50/34 compact crankset into an 11-34 cassette. That gearing gives you low enough ratios for the steep pitches the Specialissima is designed to climb, without giving up top-end range for descents or flat-road efforts. Braking comes from Ultegra R8170 hydraulic disc calipers on 160mm rotors, which deliver consistent stopping power in wet conditions and on long descents, where rim brakes tend to fade under sustained heat.
Bianchi's Reparto Corse carbon cockpit combines the stem and handlebar into a single integrated unit, cleaning up cable routing and contributing to the frame's aero profile without forcing the fit compromises some fully integrated bar setups introduce. The wheels are Bianchi's own B 49R, tubeless ready and mounted here with Continental Grand Prix TR tires in a 700x30 width — wide enough to run lower pressure for grip and comfort on rough pavement without giving up the rolling efficiency the frame is built around. A Prologo Nago R4 saddle rounds out the finishing kit, a shape Prologo designed around stable power transfer through the pedal stroke rather than pure weight savings.
Bianchi built the Specialissima as an all-rounder, not a pure climbing bike or a pure aero bike, and that's where it earns its keep — mixed-terrain group rides, gran fondos with a little of everything, and race courses that don't hold one gradient for long. At $7,499 and available across six sizes from 47cm to 59cm, finished in a Metallic Celeste / CK16 Glossy colorway, this is a road bike built to be raced hard on the days that call for it and ridden just as comfortably when they don't.
