Scott Spark RC Team Bike Info

The Scott Spark RC Team Bike is Scott's World Cup cross-country race platform in a mid-range build — 120mm of front and rear travel, a high-modulus carbon frame with the rear shock fully integrated inside the chassis, and SRAM wireless Eagle AXS Transmission electronic shifting. Scott has campaigned the Spark at the XC World Cup level for years, developing the platform around the specific demands of modern cross-country racing: punchy climbs, technical singletrack at speed, and courses that mix firm fireroad with loose, rooted sections. The Spark RC Team brings that race architecture — including the TwinLoc suspension system and an adjustable-angle headset — to a price point accessible to serious trail and XC riders.

HMF Carbon Frame and Integrated Suspension

The frame is built from Scott's HMF carbon — High Modulus Fibers, their premium carbon specification — shaped around the Integrated Suspension Technology platform. IST means the RockShox NUDE 5 rear shock lives entirely inside the main triangle, accessed through a hatch near the bottom bracket rather than mounted externally. Positioning the shock this way removes it from trail debris and impacts, lowers the bike's center of gravity, and allows a stiffer structure around the shock mounts than external placement permits. The rear triangle uses a Flex Pivot design — flex stays rather than traditional pivots — keeping weight low while maintaining suspension sensitivity through the stroke. The Syncros/Acros headset adds a ±0.6° head tube angle adjustment, letting riders dial geometry slacker or steeper for different course conditions without major component swaps. Internal cable routing runs through the Syncros Cable Integration System, and the frame uses a Universal Derailleur Hanger interface for direct SRAM Transmission compatibility.

TwinLoc Suspension Control

TwinLoc is Scott's remote suspension management system and one of the defining features of the Spark platform. A single handlebar-mounted control changes both the fork and rear shock simultaneously across three modes. Lockout shuts down suspension movement for paved sections and flat fireroad where every watt counts. Traction Control opens the rear shock to 80mm of travel for mixed terrain. Descend opens both units to their full 120mm for technical descents and rooted singletrack. On a cross-country race course — or a long trail ride with frequently changing terrain — switching modes without lifting a hand off the bar matters. The RockShox SID 3P fork handles the front, running a 3-position Rush RL damper on a 44mm offset chassis with 15x110mm Maxle Stealth thru-axle. The RockShox NUDE 5 RL3 rear shock is custom-tuned by Scott, with a Debon Air spring and rebound adjustment, running on a trunnion mount at T165X45mm.

Drivetrain and Components

The drivetrain is SRAM Eagle AXS Transmission — wireless electronic 12-speed shifting with a 10-52T cassette and 34T chainring. The Transmission platform uses a direct-mount rear derailleur on the UDH interface, eliminating the traditional derailleur hanger and the replace-after-crash cycle it creates. Shifting runs through the SRAM AXS Pod Controller, and a Powerpack battery is included. SRAM DB6 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes provide stopping power above the standard XC spec, with 180mm rotors up front and 160mm rear. The wheelset is Syncros Silverton 2.5-30 — 30mm inner width, tubeless-ready — rolling Maxxis Rekon Race 29x2.4 EXO tires front and rear. A Syncros Duncan Dropper 1.5XC seatpost ships on all sizes with 100mm of drop, a genuine necessity on modern XC bikes where technical descents demand on-the-fly seat height management. The Syncros cockpit uses the Fraser 2.0 XC alloy flat bar at 740mm width and XC 2.0 alloy stem. Pedals are not included.

Four sizes cover S through XL, all on 29" wheels. The geometry is modern XC: a consistent 67.2° head tube angle across the range, reach from 411mm on the S to 501mm on the XL, and steep seat tube angles between 75.9° and 76.9° for efficient power transfer on climbs. Chainstays hold at 437.5mm across all sizes. Available in Carbon Black and Whisper Grey, the Spark RC Team is built for one purpose — climbing efficiently, handling technical terrain with confidence, and racing cross-country at a high level. It's not a trail bike adapted for XC; it's an XC race bike with enough capability to ride well beyond race day.

The RA Perspective

The Spark RC Team is a dedicated XC race bike, and it's worth being clear about that before anything else. If your trails run long and tech and you spend most of your time descending, this isn't the bike for it. But for cross-country racing, fast trail riding, marathon events, or anyone who prioritizes climbing performance and efficient pedaling, it's a genuinely compelling option at $5,000.

The TwinLoc system is the feature that gets attention, and it earns it. Being able to flip between lockout and full travel in one motion without taking a hand off the bar is useful on a race course with mixed terrain — and on long trail rides where you're constantly switching between sustained climbs and descents. The SID and NUDE 5 combination is well-matched; the three modes are distinct and the transitions are reliable.

The SRAM Eagle AXS Transmission wireless drivetrain is a real upgrade on a bike like this. No derailleur hanger to worry about after rock strikes or crashes — the direct-mount Transmission design is more durable, and the wireless shifting is consistent. The 10-52T cassette gives you plenty of range for steep XC climbs without sacrificing top-end gearing.

One honest note: the Syncros Duncan dropper is 100mm across all four sizes. That works well on S and M, but some riders on L and XL might want more drop for bigger terrain. Worth factoring into your decision. Everything else — the 4-piston DB6 brakes, the Maxxis Rekon Race tires, the tubeless-ready Syncros wheels — is properly specified for what this bike is built to do.
