Scott Spark RC Expert Bike Info
The Scott Spark RC Expert Bike brings the architectural innovation of the all-new fifth-generation Spark RC frame to a more accessible specification. The same hidden rear shock design, the same linkage-driven single-pivot suspension layout, and the same Gen5 HMF Carbon frame that defines the 2027 Spark RC lineup — paired with Fox Factory suspension and Shimano XT Di2 electronic shifting at a price that puts this platform within reach for a broader field of serious XC riders.
The frame is the story. Unlike conventional XC full suspension bikes, where the rear shock sits vertically inside the seat tube, Scott repositioned it horizontally above the crankset. A linkage drives the shock from a pivot point near the bottom bracket — the most structurally reinforced area of any carbon frame. By concentrating suspension forces there, Scott's engineers eliminated the additional material needed to stiffen a conventionally placed shock, resulting in a cleaner, more efficient structure. The Expert uses HMF Carbon in the same Gen5 mold as the higher-tier World Cup models, which means the architecture, geometry, and kinematic character are identical across the Spark RC lineup. What changes is the carbon grade, not the design. The Syncros-Acros headset includes ±0.5° of head angle adjustability and the Syncros Octopus Gen2 system routes all cables cleanly through the headset, keeping the cockpit uncluttered. The UDH rear dropout is compatible with all current electronic and mechanical drivetrain options.
Suspension is handled by a Fox pairing well suited to XC race terrain. The Fox 34SL Factory fork runs a Grip SL damper with 120mm of travel and a Kabolt 15x110mm axle — the 34SL is Fox's lightweight XC race fork, built around a smaller-diameter 34mm stanchion that shaves weight without sacrificing the stiffness XC riders need. At the rear, the Fox Float Factory Traction Control EVOL Kashima shock is Scott-tuned for the Spark RC's suspension geometry, with 3-position TwinLoc control: Lockout for sustained climbing, Traction Control for pedaling efficiency on variable terrain, and Descend for open, active suspension on technical sections. Both low-speed compression and rebound are adjustable. The TwinLoc lever on the bar gives the rider direct, manual control over both fork and shock simultaneously — a system that rewards riders who want to actively manage their suspension rather than delegate it to automation. Rear shock dimensions are 190×45mm.
The drivetrain is Shimano XT Di2. The M8250 rear derailleur shifts electronically, with precise, repeatable gear changes regardless of cable tension or hand fatigue. Shimano's Di2 system on an XC platform means wireless shifting from the Deore Di2 M6250 lever, a 34T chainring, and a Shimano Deore M7200 12-speed cassette running a 10-51T range — enough gear spread to cover steep climbs and open flats without compromise. The Shimano MT501 BSA bottom bracket keeps the interface between crankset and frame straightforward and serviceable. Stopping power comes from Shimano Deore M6220 4-piston hydraulic brakes with Shimano CL700 rotors — 180mm up front, 160mm rear.
The wheels are Syncros Silverton AL2 alloy — tubeless ready, sized for 29-inch tires front and rear. Maxxis Aspen 29×2.4 tires in the EXO casing with a 120TPI folding bead provide a fast, tubeless-compatible rolling surface for hardpack and compacted XC terrain. The integrated cockpit is the Syncros IC-M100-AL2, an alloy one-piece bar-and-stem unit running 740mm wide with a 7° backsweep. Stem length scales with frame size. The Syncros dropper seatpost (SP-M100-AL2, 31.6mm) provides trail-descending capability without cable routing complications. A Syncros Celista Cut Out saddle with Cr-Mo rails rounds out the contact points.
The Spark RC Expert is available in sizes S through XL, sharing the same geometry as the rest of the 2027 Spark RC lineup — 65.9° head tube angle, 434mm chainstay across all sizes, and reach values scaled from 430mm (S) to 505mm (XL). For a rider who wants the defining innovation of the new Spark RC frame at a price point below the Flight Attendant-equipped models, the Expert delivers the same kinematic foundation with a component package built around proven, race-grade electronics from Shimano and factory-level suspension from Fox.
