Mondraker Arid Carbon RR Bike Info

Mondraker built its reputation on mountain bikes, and the Mondraker Arid Carbon RR is what happens when those decades of trail geometry thinking are applied to a purpose-built gravel platform. The Arid is Mondraker's first dedicated gravel bike, and the MTB influence runs through every design decision: a 70° head tube angle is slack by gravel standards — closer to a trail hardtail than a road-derived drop-bar machine — and that geometry is deliberate. Mondraker's position is that real-world mixed-terrain riding rewards stability, and a more relaxed front end keeps the bike composed at speed on loose descents without penalizing efficiency on the climbs.

The geometry translates into specific numbers. A 75mm bottom bracket drop keeps the rider's center of gravity low while avoiding pedal-strike risk. The 425mm chainstays balance traction with enough liveliness for punchy efforts out of corners. Stems run shorter across the size range — 60 to 90mm — paired with a 73° effective seat tube angle that positions you directly over the pedals when the gradient kicks up. Reach runs from 363mm in the small to 446mm in the XL. The result is a bike that stays confident on technical descents and direct on climbs, which is the actual requirement for gravel that goes beyond packed surfaces.

The Stealth Air Carbon chassis uses a T47 threaded bottom bracket shell for durability and ease of field service. Mondraker's HHG internal cable routing runs all lines inside the frame but makes them accessible from under the stem — a meaningful distinction from systems that require complete de-cabling to replace a housing. The seatstays incorporate a cutout window that allows controlled vertical compliance, taking the edge off rough surfaces without compromising lateral stiffness where it matters. A Universal Derailleur Hanger and 12x142mm thru-axle complete the practical underpinning of the frame.

Frame Storage and Cargo

The Arid's internal downtube storage is sealed with a watertight locking hatch and comes with three Carry-On bags sized for tools, nutrition, and small items. Six bottle cage positions are distributed across the frame — two in the main triangle, one under the downtube, one on the top tube — plus six bolt points across the fork legs for Anything cage systems. That configuration supports long single-day rides or multi-day bikepacking without exterior mounts cluttering the setup.

Drivetrain and Components

SRAM Force AXS XPLR E1 handles shifting in a 13-speed setup with a 40T chainring and 10-46T cassette. The crankset includes an integrated power meter — at this price, factory power without an aftermarket upgrade is a spec worth noting. Hydraulic disc brakes are SRAM Force AXS E1 with SRAM Paceline rotors at 160mm front and rear. Zipp 303 XPLR S wheels with 32mm internal width are hookless and tubeless ready, matched with Goodyear XPLR Inter tires in 700x45 — the frame accepts up to 700x50. The cockpit is an Onoff S9 GR Carbon bar with 16° of flare for control on technical terrain, combined with an Onoff semi-integrated stem and Onoff S9 Carbon seatpost at 27.2mm. A Fizik Vento Argo X5 at 140mm completes the build.

Design Benefits

  1. MTB-derived geometry — 70° head tube angle and 75mm BB drop translate trail bike stability to a drop-bar platform, keeping the front end predictable on loose descents while staying efficient on climbs.
  2. Integrated power meter — SRAM Force XPLR crankset includes factory power at no additional cost, removing the need for an aftermarket upgrade on a $7,499 build.
  3. Accessible internal routing — HHG system routes all cables internally while keeping them reachable from under the stem, simplifying home maintenance without disassembling the cockpit.
  4. Controlled vertical compliance — Seatstay cutout window allows engineered vertical flex while maintaining the lateral stiffness needed for efficient power transfer.
  5. Watertight downtube storage — Locking internal hatch with three Carry-On bags keeps essentials accessible without external frame bags.
  6. Comprehensive cargo mounts — Six bottle cage positions plus six fork leg bolt points support configurations from race nutrition setups to full bikepacking.
  7. Zipp 303 XPLR S wheels — 32mm internal width hookless tubeless-ready rims support wide tires and lower pressures suited to mixed-terrain riding.

The Arid Carbon RR is available in Aura Blue and Superblack in sizes S through XL. It suits riders who want a gravel bike where the geometry actively contributes to confidence on technical terrain — not just wide tires doing the work. If your routes lean toward proper dirt, loose surfaces, and the kind of descents where road-derived geometry starts to feel nervous, Mondraker has applied what they know about trail bikes to this platform with purpose.

The RA Perspective

The Arid sits in an interesting position for us. Mondraker is a mountain bike company — a very good mountain bike company — and that DNA is all over this bike. The 70° head tube angle alone marks it as something different. Most gravel bikes run 72–73°; Mondraker went two degrees slacker, borrowing directly from their trail hardtail geometry thinking. On actual mixed terrain, that choice pays off. The front end stays composed when loose gravel or embedded rocks appear mid-descent, which is exactly where a lot of gravel bikes start to feel nervous and require you to brake earlier than you'd like.

The HHG cable routing is worth calling out separately. Internal routing on gravel bikes can be a service nightmare — we've worked on bikes that require de-cabling the entire cockpit to replace a single housing. Mondraker's approach of routing everything internally but keeping cables accessible under the stem is a practical solution that matters when the bike is three years old and needs a cable refresh.

The power meter crankset being standard spec at this price is unusual. At $7,499, you'd typically get either a clean groupset build without power, or you're paying $500–700 extra to add a power meter. Force XPLR with factory power changes that value equation.

Who this is for: riders who've outgrown road-derived gravel geometry and want a chassis that handles the technical end of the terrain spectrum as well as it handles sustained climbs and long efforts. The Arid Carbon RR is Mondraker applying what they know about mountain bikes to a drop-bar platform, and the result is a gravel bike that earns its geometry claims.
