The Löwenkralle earns its spot in the gear closet by solving a specific problem: what do you do with a jacket you only need for twenty minutes of a four-hour ride. It packs small enough to live on the handlebar instead of stuffed in a jersey pocket, and it comes off the bar and onto your back fast enough that you're not standing on the side of the trail fumbling with zippers while everyone else rolls on.

On the bike, the PAVE fabric on the front does what Assos says it does — it cuts wind noticeably and shrugs off light rain and spray. We wouldn't call it a rain jacket for a genuine downpour; the waterproofing is rated low by design, since this is built to breathe first and block water second. For a gravel ride where the forecast is a coin flip, or a commute with a drizzle rather than a storm, that tradeoff makes sense. If you're riding into a real all-day soaking, you want something else in the closet.

The regularFit is close enough to stay aerodynamic without feeling restrictive when you're out of the saddle on a climb, and the RX EVO Light sleeves add just enough warmth for a cool descent without turning into an oven once you're back on the flats.

We'd reach for this on shoulder-season rides where the temperature swings 15 degrees between the climb and the descent, or gravel days where the sky looks unreliable and you'd rather carry insurance than get caught out.
