The RA Perspective

The CX333-X is the shoe we recommend when a customer comes in with a wider forefoot and has been told — or assumed — that a performance-oriented fit isn't available to them. The CX/TX Race Last in Wide changes that. The heel geometry is still tight and precise; the extra width is built into the forefoot where it's actually needed. For riders who've been sizing up or making do with a shoe that's just a little too loose at the back to get enough room up front, the CX333-X tends to feel like a revelation.

The CX333 generation made two meaningful changes from the outgoing CX332: the Carbitex arch support panel and the step up to BOA Li2 dials. The arch panel is the subtler upgrade — you don't notice it consciously, but after a few long rides you notice that your foot feels more stable through the midfoot in a way that previous Lake models didn't quite deliver. The Li2 dial is more immediately apparent. It adjusts in both directions, which makes dialing in fit mid-ride far more practical than older BOA hardware.

The Double Sole system carries over from the CX332 and remains one of Lake's most practical engineering decisions. Kangaroo leather on the upper molds gradually to the foot over the first few hundred kilometers — it's worth committing to a few long rides before judging the fit, because the break-in pays off.

At $529.99, the CX333-X sits at the top of Lake's road lineup and competes directly with flagship offerings from Sidi and Shimano. For a wide-footed rider who wants race-shoe performance without custom footbeds or compromises, this is the shoe we'd reach for.
