Casco Giro Aries Spherical LTD - Visma Team Info

The Giro Aries Spherical LTD Helmet in Visma Team is the exact lid worn by Visma-Lease a Bike riders at the Tour de France — now available in limited quantities at a sale price that makes it one of the better values in WorldTour-level road helmets. The Aries Spherical earned one of Virginia Tech's highest-ever crash safety ratings, and it does it without asking you to compromise on ventilation, fit, or weight. At 270g in a size medium, it's a featherlight helmet built to the demands of the best-supported team in professional cycling.

Safety starts with Spherical Technology powered by MIPS®. Rather than the typical flat MIPS liner, Giro uses a ball-and-socket construction where the inner and outer helmet layers can rotate independently. During angled impacts — the kind most common in real crashes — this allows the outer shell to move relative to the liner, redirecting rotational forces away from the brain. Beneath that, Progressive Layering™ uses two densities of EPS foam in the same shell: a softer inner layer absorbs the energy of lower-speed impacts that a single-density foam would pass straight through, while the stiffer outer layer handles high-speed forces. The Aura II Reinforcing Arch ties it together structurally, maintaining rigidity while opening up the oversized vent ports that define the Aries' silhouette.

Those vents do serious work. Twenty-one Wind Tunnel vents connect to Deep Internal Channeling that draws air through the helmet in a sustained flow rather than letting it stagnate. The Roc Loc® 5+ Air fit system enhances this further by slightly suspending the helmet above the rider's head — creating a channel for air between the helmet and skull that keeps the fit precise without creating a dead zone of trapped heat. Eyewear docking ports with rubber grippers let you stow glasses securely during climbs or in low-light transitions without them sliding off.

Design Benefits

  1. Ball-and-socket MIPS construction — more sophisticated than a flat liner, the inner and outer shells move independently to redirect rotational forces during angled impacts
  2. Dual-density Progressive Layering™ — protects across the full spectrum of impact speeds, not just the high-speed scenarios a single-density foam is tuned for
  3. 21-vent Deep Internal Channeling — sustained airflow through the helmet rather than passive venting; keeps you noticeably cooler under sustained effort
  4. Roc Loc® 5+ Air fit — suspends the helmet above the head for dialed retention and improved airflow simultaneously
  5. Virginia Tech top-rated safety — independent testing, not Giro's own data; one of the highest scores the lab has recorded

The RA Perspective

The Aries Spherical is the helmet we point riders to when they want something that performs at the top of every category without having to make tradeoffs. Most helmets at this price ask you to choose — maximum aero means less ventilation, maximum ventilation means a heavier structure, maximum safety ratings mean a stiffer, less comfortable shell. The Aries largely sidesteps those compromises. The ball-and-socket MIPS construction is meaningfully different from a standard MIPS liner, and the Virginia Tech rating is independently verified — not Giro's own benchmark.

The Visma Team edition is the same helmet the Visma-Lease a Bike squad wore at the Tour de France, in team colorway. If you follow the sport, that context means something. If you don't, it's still just an exceptionally well-made road helmet at a sale price that puts it well below its regular $349.99 retail.

The Roc Loc 5+ Air system is worth highlighting to customers who haven't used it. The slight suspension above the head is noticeable — there's airflow between the helmet and your scalp that you don't get with a snug-contact fit system. On long hot rides, that difference is real. The 21-vent channeling does its part too; this helmet runs significantly cooler than helmets with similar or even higher vent counts that don't channel air with the same intention.

Worth noting: this is a Final Sale item, so sizing matters. We'd recommend measuring head circumference and matching to the chart before ordering — the Roc Loc system has solid adjustment range, but it won't fix a shell that's a full size off.
