The RA Perspective

The MX333-X answers a question we hear regularly at the shop: is there a serious XC race shoe for riders with wide feet? Most performance MTB shoes are built narrow, and the options for wide-footed riders tend to skew toward trail or enduro categories where fit tolerances are looser. The MX Race Last in Wide keeps all the geometry that makes the MX333 fast — tight heel, controlled volume through the arch — and adds meaningful forefoot width without softening the performance character.

The Thermaform heel counter is worth calling out specifically. It's the same technology Lake uses in the CX403, which sits at the top of their road lineup. Heat molding it to your heel takes about twenty minutes and makes a noticeable difference in how the shoe feels on the bike — the heel stays put, the foot doesn't rock, and you stop losing energy to micro-movements over sustained climbs.

The Clarino Microfiber upper is the right call for a performance MTB shoe. It's lighter than leather, holds up against brush and rock rub, and the Outlast lining at the heel and tongue keeps the interior from turning into a furnace on hot summer rides. The rubber patterned outsole and TPU toe lugs give you real grip when you're walking up loose terrain or shouldering the bike — the carbon plate underneath keeps things stiff when you're clipped in and putting down power.
