Zapatos Lake MX30G Regular Info

The MX30G is our go-to recommendation for riders who are doing serious gravel racing or long-distance MTB events and want a shoe that performs like a road shoe on the bike without completely abandoning them the moment they step off it.

The MX Race Last is the part that makes this shoe. It's a close, racing-oriented fit — more dialed in than Lake's Sport last and with less volume than the Competition last. Riders with a medium-width foot who want a snug feel tend to find this geometry works immediately, right out of the box. The dual BOA system gives you enough adjustability to fine-tune once foot volume shifts over the course of a long ride.

We typically steer people toward the mesh version unless they're riding heavily wooded, rocky terrain where the upper is going to take regular abuse. The ventilation is exceptional — genuinely noticeable on summer rides — and the quick-dry properties are a real advantage in events with water crossings. The microfiber is the more durable choice for riders who are hard on their gear.

One thing worth knowing: this shoe is built for pedaling efficiency, and the carbon sole reflects that. It's stiffer underfoot than a dedicated trail shoe, which is exactly what you want when you're covering big miles on the gravel bike. If you're primarily hiking or scrambling, a softer sole shoe would serve you better. But for riders who spend 95% of their time clipped in, the MX30G is hard to beat at this price point.
