HED Cycling was founded in 1984 by Steve Hed in St. Paul, Minnesota, after he recognized that triathletes and time trialists had no access to serious aerodynamic wheel equipment. His early disc wheel designs helped establish the category, and HED has continued to shape it — Gwen Jorgensen won the 2016 Rio Olympic triathlon gold on HED wheels, and at the 2022 Ironman World Championships, eight professional triathletes competed on HED Jet 180s, including the bike course record holder. Steve Hed passed away in 2014; his wife Anne Hed became CEO and continues to lead the family business, with son Andrew Hed now part of the team.
