The Jet RC9 Rim Brake is a specialized wheel. It's not a do-everything aero option — it's a 90mm deep rim designed for flat roads and controlled conditions where aerodynamics are the only variable that matters. When a customer comes in looking at this wheel, the first question we ask is where they're going to use it. Time trials, triathlon, flat course road races — yes, absolutely. Mixed terrain, hilly courses, or anything with unpredictable crosswinds — we'll steer them toward the RC6 at 60mm instead.

What we appreciate about the RC Performance series generally — and the RC9 specifically — is the alloy brake track. We've seen enough carbon brake track issues over the years to have strong opinions here. The heat management concerns on long descents are real, and the wet-weather modulation on carbon tracks is variable in a way that erodes confidence. HED's hybrid construction sidesteps all of that. You brake like you're on an aluminum wheel, which on a rim brake setup at 90mm depth is a meaningful advantage.

The weight at 1,885 grams is fair for what this wheel is. You're not going to climb on this wheelset, and it doesn't pretend to be a climbing wheel.
