We recommend this kit often to riders who come in with mechanical Eagle and want to go electronic without building up a whole new drivetrain. The math is straightforward — if the cassette, crank, and chain are in good shape, there's no reason to replace them. The upgrade kit is exactly what the name says: swap the derailleur, add the POD, and you're on AXS.

The shift quality at the GX tier is genuinely good. It's not XX or X01 — the derailleur body is heavier and the materials are workday rather than race-day — but the AXS platform itself is the same across the lineup. Wireless signal, same app, same battery. The experience of pressing the POD and feeling the derailleur move is identical to what you'd get on a more expensive build.

A few things worth knowing before you buy: the kit requires your bike to already be running Eagle-compatible components. If you're on a 10-speed drivetrain or a non-Eagle 12-speed, this isn't a bolt-on. And while the conversion doesn't require cable routing work, you'll want a shop to dial in the derailleur alignment — electronic shifting is precise and a few minutes on the stand is worth it.

Battery life is strong in our experience. We rarely hear complaints about mid-ride failures from customers running this system. The AXS app's maintenance reminders are a useful touch — they take some of the guesswork out of service intervals for riders who don't track that manually.
