BMC Kaius 01 One Bike Info

The BMC Kaius 01 One is BMC's top-tier gravel race bike — built for competition, not exploration. Where the URS handles long days in the wilderness, the Kaius exists for one purpose: finishing gravel races faster. This is the second generation of the Kaius 01, redesigned from geometry to cockpit based on what the first version revealed about what a gravel racer actually needs. It tips the scales at 7.1 kilograms in size 54 with all accessories, carries a full SRAM Red XPLR AXS build, and arrives ready to race.

The Gen 2 frame is built from BMC's 01 Premium Carbon — the same layup used in the Teammachine road platform — shaped around an Aerocore Design with tube profiles tuned specifically for gravel racing's demands. The geometry was reworked for this generation: sharper and more responsive up front, calmer at speed, and capable of running tires up to 52mm on the rear 12x142mm thru-axle. A Universal Derailleur Hanger simplifies wheel and derailleur changes in the field. BMC's Tuned Compliance Concept (TCC) governs how the frame and fork flex — calibrated to absorb sustained vibration without bleeding power on the rough stuff. All cabling routes internally through the frame via ICS Technology, and BMC reports a 7% aerodynamic improvement over the first-generation Kaius at 40 km/h. Five cargo mounts are integrated into the frame without disrupting its silhouette: two bottle cage positions with AeroCore integrated cages, a bottom bracket mount under the downtube, and dual top tube positions front and rear.

The cockpit is a one-piece ICS Carbon Aero Gen 2 bar-and-stem unit developed with Tudor Pro Cycling Team. It's stiffer than the previous generation, designed to hold a low, aerodynamic position over long miles of rough terrain without punishing your hands and shoulders. The handlebar has 12 degrees of flare for grip and control when the surface deteriorates, with 135mm of drop and 81mm of reach — geometry for riders who want road-bike efficiency without sacrificing off-road confidence. All routing is internal, with no external housing visible from the front. The carbon seatpost — borrowed from the Teammachine SLR 01 Gen 5 — is an aero-shaped design available in 0mm offset for sizes 47–51 and 10mm offset for sizes 54–61, topped with a Fizik Vento Argo X1 Carbon saddle in 140mm width.

The drivetrain is the full SRAM Red XPLR AXS E1 system: a 42-tooth chainring paired with a 10-46 13-speed cassette gives a wide range for climbs and sustained tempo. The crankset integrates a power meter directly — no separate spider or pedal sensor required. The direct-mount rear derailleur is specific to the XPLR system and works wirelessly alongside the SRAM Red AXS E1 levers, which shed cable-tension problems in mud and rain without adding mechanical complexity. SRAM Red AXS hydraulic disc brakes handle stopping with 160mm Paceline X rotors at both ends. Underneath the bike, CG 39 SL Carbon wheels with carbon spokes and a 39mm rim depth are tubeless-ready with a Star Ratchet freehub and Center Lock rotor interface. Continental Terra Competition Race Rapid tires in 700x45 come mounted tubeless from the factory.

The Kaius 01 One is available in Copper White / Thunder Blue, fitting riders from 47cm through 61cm. Garmin, Wahoo, and GoPro computer mounts are included. This is not the right bike for loaded bikepacking or casual gravel miles — it's for the rider who arrives at the start line of a gravel race with a clear intention to compete. If that's the brief, the Kaius 01 One has the frame, the build, and the geometry to execute it.

The RA Perspective

We've been fitting riders to gravel bikes for years, and the Kaius 01 One is immediately recognizable as something different from the moment you look at it. This is not a bike with a hidden agenda — it's not an adventure machine with race-day pretensions. The one-piece ICS Carbon Aero Gen 2 cockpit tells you exactly what it is: low, narrow, built to put you in a position where the only option is to go fast.

On packed hardpack and fast gravel, the Kaius is stiff where it counts. The power meter-equipped SRAM Red XPLR crankset and direct-mount rear derailleur operate without drama across a 10-46 cassette that covers climbs and sustained tempo without gaps. Where the Gen 2 shows its improvement most clearly is in longer efforts on rough terrain. BMC's TCC compliance engineering takes the edge off sustained vibration in a way that keeps your hands and shoulders functional at mile 80 when a stiffer frame would have already extracted its toll.

A few things to know before you commit. The one-piece ICS cockpit limits post-purchase adjustability compared to a traditional bar-and-stem setup — if you're between sizes, come in for a fit first rather than guessing. The 42-tooth single chainring is well-matched to most gravel conditions, but riders who regularly do fast flat road sectors may find themselves wanting another gear at the top end.

The Kaius 01 One is the right tool for the rider who shows up to compete. If that describes you, very little about this bike is easy to argue with.
