The RA Perspective

We like this wheel for the reason PRO built it: it's a disc wheel you can actually fix yourself trackside. Tubular discs generally shave some weight, but if you flat with fifteen miles to go in a half-iron and no support car nearby, a clincher means you're back riding in five minutes instead of standing on the shoulder.

The build feels solid rather than flashy. The carbon-and-Rohacel sandwich construction isn't trying to be the lightest disc on the shelf, and at 1,590g it isn't. What it does well is hold up to regular use — the alloy braking surface is the detail we'd point to first, since carbon rims can get sketchy braking on a wet descent and this one doesn't have that issue.

The tradeoff is mounting logistics. You'll want a disc-specific pump adapter on hand before race morning, and the minimum 24mm tire width rules out anyone running narrower race tires. Neither is a dealbreaker, but they're the kind of thing you want to sort out at home, not in a transition area.

This is the right call for a triathlete or time trialist who wants the aero advantage of a rear disc on a course that's flat to rolling, and who values being able to service the wheel themselves over shaving the last few grams. We'd reach for this over a tubular disc for anyone doing their own wrench work and racing without a dedicated support crew.
