The RA Perspective

The RA Performance is exactly what its name suggests — the practical, value-focused version of a wheel that's already proven itself over 15-plus years in the Ardennes line. HED didn't cut corners on the things that matter for durability; they simplified the hub and narrowed the tire focus to bring the price down, which is a smart way to make a good wheel more accessible rather than making a lesser one.

The 28mm optimal tire size is worth knowing before you buy. If you're mostly riding pavement with occasional rougher roads, that's the right target and this wheelset will feel great. If you're regularly running 32mm-plus tires for gravel, the Pro tier's wider intended range is probably the better fit — this isn't the wheelset built around that use case the way the Pro is.
