Colnago C72 La Scala Limited Edition Bike Info

The Colnago C72 La Scala Limited Edition Bike is a numbered run of 72, built to mark the C72's launch in Milan at the Teatro alla Scala. The C72 is assembled in Cambiago, near Milan, where Colnago has made bikes since 1954, and this edition keeps that frame and puts it in a livery taken from the opera house: red, gold and marbled white, with a gold-leaf embossed cloverleaf and an embossed texture on the seat tube. Each frame carries its production number on the fork, next to the collaboration logo.

It is a collector's piece, but it is a complete road bike and a rideable one. The frame is the standard C72 platform: a modular carbon frame built from seven bonded parts, with an unpainted 485mm frame weight of 895g on Colnago's spec sheet. The fork is carbon with integrated cable routing, the seatpost is a D-shaped carbon design with 15mm of offset, and the bottom bracket is a threaded BSA 68mm. Tire clearance goes up to 35mm, and the bike ships with 28mm Pirelli P Zero Race TLR tubeless-ready tires. The frame technology matches the standard C72, so the premium here is for the finish, the numbering and the La Scala parts.

The groupset is Campagnolo Super Record Wireless, 13-speed, with the derailleurs, shifters, crankset, cassette and chain all from the same top-tier family. Gearing is a 52/36 crankset with an 11-36 cassette. Braking is Super Record hydraulic disc, with 160mm rotors in front and 140mm at the rear. The wheels are Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO 45 Disc in a dedicated La Scala edition, with a 45mm rim depth that sits between a climbing wheel and a full aero section. The saddle is a Prologo Choice, also a La Scala edition.

The cockpit is Colnago's CC.02 integrated carbon bar and stem, which has a multitool built in. Bar reach is 80mm with a 120mm drop, and the stem comes in 110mm on the 48.5cm and 51cm sizes and 120mm on the 53cm. Grip Black bar tape and a matte black bottle cage finish the build. Pedals are not included, so you can fit the ones you already trust.

The geometry is a race-oriented fit without being extreme. In the 51cm, stack is 562mm and reach is 387mm, with a 72.9-degree head tube angle and a 72mm bottom bracket drop. The edition comes in three sizes: 48.5cm, 51cm and 53cm. Crank length is 170mm on the smallest and 172.5mm on the other two. The maximum combined rider and equipment weight is 264 lbs.

This is a full build with a dedicated saddle and wheels, not a frameset with decoration. If you collect Colnagos, or you want a C72 that nobody else on the group ride has, the La Scala is the version to look at.

The RA Perspective

The La Scala is the C72 in its most dressed-up form, and in person the livery is the thing. The gold-leaf cloverleaf and the embossed seat tube texture are the kind of detail that photographs flatter but do not fully capture.

Underneath, it is a C72, which is a good thing. The Super Record Wireless groupset and Bora Ultra wheels match the frame's level, and the 28mm tires with clearance up to 35mm make it a comfortable choice for long days.

The tradeoffs are about the edition, not the bike. You are paying for the numbering, the finish and the La Scala parts, and the frame technology is the same as the standard C72. Sizing is limited to three options, and the finish is something you will think twice about on a crowded group ride.

We would point this bike at a collector who also rides, or a Colnago loyalist who wants the special one. If you want the same ride for less, the standard C72 does that. If you want the numbered bike, this is the one.
