Scott Spark RC Comp Bike Info

The Scott Spark RC Comp Bike is the most affordable way into the all-new fifth-generation Spark RC platform — the same Gen5 HMF Carbon frame, the same hidden rear shock architecture, and the same race-proven geometry as the World Cup flagships, paired with a component spec that prioritizes reliability and value at $4,499.

The frame design is the defining feature of the entire 2027 Spark RC lineup, and the Comp doesn't compromise it. Scott's engineers moved the rear shock out of the conventional vertical seat tube position and repositioned it horizontally above the crankset, where a linkage drives it from a pivot near the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket area is the most structurally reinforced zone of any carbon frame — concentrating the suspension forces there allowed Scott to eliminate the extra material typically needed around a vertically mounted shock, resulting in a lighter, cleaner structure. The Comp uses HMF Carbon in the same Gen5 molds as the Expert and World Cup variants. That means the geometry, kinematics, and ride character start from the same foundation across the entire Spark RC range. The Syncros-Acros headset provides ±0.5° of head angle adjustability, and the Syncros Octopus Gen2 system routes all cables through the headset — bar, brake, dropper, and suspension cables managed cleanly without external housing runs. The UDH rear dropout is compatible with all current drivetrain options, mechanical or electronic.

Suspension is a RockShox SID pairing. Up front, the SID 3P Air fork with Rush RL damper runs 120mm of travel on a 15x110mm Maxle Stealth axle, with rebound adjustment and 3-position lockout. The Rush RL damper is RockShox's mid-tier XC tune — more refined than a basic OEM fork, with enough damping control to be genuinely useful on variable XC terrain. At the rear, the RockShox SIDLuxe Select+ handles 120mm of travel through the Spark RC's linkage, with 3-position Lockout-Pedal-Descend control, Solo Air, and rebound adjustment. Both units share a single 3P lever on the bar that controls fork and shock simultaneously — the same manual suspension management concept used across the Spark RC lineup at higher spec levels, just without the electronic automation of Flight Attendant. Rear shock dimensions are 190×45mm.

The drivetrain is Shimano Deore 12-speed mechanical. The M7200 rear derailleur paired with Deore M6200 shifters delivers the crisp, indexed shifting Shimano's Deore line is known for — dependable across a wide range of conditions, straightforward to service, and not sensitive to cable stretch in the way that narrower-tolerance systems can be. A 34T chainring paired with the Deore M6200 10-51T cassette covers the same range as the electronic drivetrains found higher in the lineup. The Shimano MT501 BSA bottom bracket and MT520 crankset complete a drivetrain built for longevity over outright weight savings. Braking comes from Shimano MT620 4-piston hydraulic calipers front and rear, with Shimano CL300 rotors — 180mm up front, 160mm rear.

Wheels are Syncros Silverton AL2 alloy, tubeless ready on both ends, sized for 29-inch tires. Maxxis Aspen 29×2.4 tires in the EXO casing with 120TPI folding bead roll fast on hardpack and are tubeless-compatible out of the box. The Syncros IC-M100-AL2 integrated alloy cockpit runs 740mm wide with a 7° backsweep, with stem length scaling by frame size. A Syncros dropper seatpost (SP-M100-AL2, 31.6mm) is included, providing trail-descending capability without adding cable routing complexity. The Syncros Celista Cut Out saddle rounds out the contact points.

The Spark RC Comp is available in sizes S through XL. Geometry is consistent with the rest of the 2027 Spark RC lineup — 65.9° head tube angle, 434mm chainstay across all frame sizes, and reach from 430mm (S) to 505mm (XL). For a rider who wants to own the Gen5 Spark RC frame without the component premium of the Expert or World Cup builds, the Comp makes a clear case. The frame architecture is the same. The geometry is the same. What changes are the components — and components can be upgraded. The frame cannot.

The RA Perspective

The Spark RC Comp is the bike we'd recommend to someone who has done their research on the new Gen5 Spark RC platform and wants into it without paying Expert or World Cup money. The frame is the story here, and the Comp doesn't water it down. You get the hidden shock, the linkage, the Octopus cable integration, the adjustable head angle — the full architecture. Same molds, same geometry, same ride character as the bikes that cost two or three times more.

The RockShox SID Rush RL fork is a capable XC fork. It's not a Fox Factory unit, but it handles the demands of XC terrain competently and responds well to setup work. The SIDLuxe Select+ rear shock is similarly honest — not the most refined unit in the lineup, but tuned specifically for the Spark RC's suspension curve and reliable over time. The 3P lever managing both units simultaneously works exactly as expected.

The mechanical Deore drivetrain is where the Comp trades most visibly against the Expert's Di2 system. Mechanical shifting requires more attention to cable tension over time, and it won't feel as crisp as XT Di2 after a few months of hard use without maintenance. That said, Deore 12-speed is a proven, durable system, and a mechanical drivetrain is easier and cheaper to keep running in the field. For a rider who's willing to do their own basic maintenance, it's a reasonable choice at this price.

The natural upgrade path from the Comp is clear: electronic drivetrain first, then wheels. The UDH dropout is compatible with SRAM and Shimano electronic systems, so the frame is ready for that when the time comes.

At $4,499, the Spark RC Comp is a genuinely good XC mountain bike built on a frame that would have cost significantly more in any previous generation.
