The RA Perspective

We like recommending the tri-spoke over a full disc for a lot of triathletes and time trialists, especially ones who don't have the luxury of racing only on calm days. The open sections between the three blades genuinely do make this wheel easier to hold a line with in a crosswind than a disc, without giving up much of the aero benefit that made you want a deep front wheel in the first place.

Going clincher instead of tubular is a real convenience decision, not just a cost one. If you flat mid-race, you're changing a tube on the side of the road instead of hoping a race-day tubular fix holds. The tradeoff is that this is a rim-brake wheel, so if your bike runs disc brakes, this one isn't compatible regardless of how much you like the tri-spoke shape.

At 65mm and 1,040 grams, it's squarely a flat-course wheel. We wouldn't put this on a hilly time trial course or a triathlon bike leg with real climbing, but on a flat 40k or an Ironman bike course without major elevation, it's a strong, stable choice.

For triathletes and time trialists on rim-brake bikes racing mostly flat courses, this is one of the more sensible tri-spoke options at this price.
