The RA Perspective

The Charisma comes out of Pinarello's own MOST component line, which is worth knowing going in: this isn't a wheel from one of the big wheel-specific brands, it's the house wheel Pinarello speced to match its own race bikes. That pedigree shows in the build quality and weight, at roughly 1,348 grams for a 45mm carbon tubular pair, but it also means support and spare parts may be less straightforward to source than with a mainstream wheel brand years down the line.

Running tubulars is the biggest thing to plan around here. If you've never glued a tubular tire before, budget time to learn the process or have a shop do it for you, since a poorly glued tubular is a real safety issue at speed. Once mounted, though, the ride quality is smooth and the rolling resistance is genuinely lower than a comparable clincher setup.

We'd point this wheelset at a time trialist or triathlete running Campagnolo who wants an aero upgrade without spending full retail, or a road racer who does most of their racing on flat, low-crosswind courses. It's less at home on a windy, exposed course or as an everyday training wheel, given the depth and the tubular maintenance involved.
