The RA Perspective

We recommend the Super Air R to riders who don't want to own two separate helmets for climbing and descending. The chin bar genuinely takes seconds to attach or remove, and it doesn't feel like an afterthought bolted onto an open-face helmet — the fit stays secure with the bar on or off.

The Spherical MIPS system is a step up from a standard MIPS liner, since the rotation happens between the outer and inner shells instead of relying on a separate low-friction layer. That said, this is an all-mountain helmet built for trail and enduro use, not a dedicated downhill full-face — riders doing serious bike park or DH riding should look at a purpose-built full-face instead.

Ventilation is good on the climbs, though riders running the chin bar on hot days should expect less airflow around the lower face than a pure open-face trail helmet, which is the tradeoff that comes with any convertible design. The adjustable visor doing double duty as goggle storage is a small detail that ends up mattering more than expected once you're swapping between sunglasses and goggles mid-ride.

We'd point trail and enduro riders toward this helmet if they want one piece of gear that handles both the pedal up and the technical way down, rather than two dedicated helmets.
