The RA Perspective

There's a reason the Vigorelli has stuck around for two decades — it's one of the few frames that genuinely works as both a track bike and a street bike without feeling like a compromise in either direction. On the velodrome, the low front end and negative sloping top tube put you in the aggressive position you want for holding speed through banked turns. On the street, that same geometry makes it quick and confident in traffic, which is exactly why it became a fixture in fixed-gear urban racing.

The Columbus Airplane aluminum frame is stiff enough that you feel every bit of power going into the fixed gear, without the frame feeling harsh over rougher city pavement. The carbon fork adds a bit of comfort up front compared to an all-aluminum build, and the threaded BSA bottom bracket is a small detail we appreciate — it stays quiet and is simple to service, which matters when you're putting real miles on a fixed-gear drivetrain.

Worth knowing: this is a frameset built for a specific type of riding. If you're new to fixed-gear or track riding, the lack of a freewheel and the aggressive position take some adjustment, and Cinelli's aero seatpost and integrated headset mean parts compatibility is a little more specific than a generic build.

We'd point this frame at a rider who wants either a genuine track bike for the velodrome or a fast, low-maintenance fixed-gear frame for city riding and crits — and especially at anyone who wants a piece of a frame with real history behind it rather than a generic fixed-gear frame built to look the part.
