Lake CX333 Cycling Shoes

The Lake CX333 is one of the most technically advanced road cycling shoes available — and one of the few that actually gets fit right. Built on Lake's CX/TX Race Last and available in Regular, Wide (CX333-X), and Narrow (CX333-N), the CX333 covers a range of foot shapes without compromising performance. The patent double sole system, BOA Li2 closure, Carbitex arch panel, and heat-moldable carbon heel counter work together to eliminate hot spots, numbness, and pressure points — the problems that turn long rides into suffering. Choose your upper: kangaroo leather for natural breathability and break-in, or Clarino Microfiber for temperature regulation and a lighter feel.

About the Lake CX333

## Why the Lake CX333 Is the Right Road Shoe for Serious Riders

The Lake CX333 sits just below Lake's flagship CX403 in their road shoe hierarchy — but for most riders, it's the smarter buy. It shares the same CX/TX Race Last as the top-of-line model, delivers the same premium construction quality, and costs less. What you get is a shoe that's been refined over four decades of Lake Cycling expertise, and it shows in every detail.

### The Problem Every Cyclist Knows

Foot pain on the bike isn't a minor inconvenience — it's a performance killer. Hot spots. Numbness at the ball of the foot. A heel that slips or a toe box that clamps down after hour two. These aren't signs that you need to toughen up — they're engineering failures. The CX333 was built specifically to address each one of them.

### Lake's Patent Double Sole System

The most important feature on the CX333 isn't one most cyclists talk about enough: the patented double sole. Lake engineers the CX333 with two distinct sole layers working in tandem. The outer sole is a full 100% carbon fiber racing platform — stiff, light, and designed for maximum power transfer to the pedal. The inner sole is a semi-flexible fiberglass layer suspended over the carbon outer sole, positioned at the ball of the foot where blood pooling and swelling typically create hot spots and numbness during long rides. By allowing the foot to flex naturally where it needs to flex — without compromising the rigidity of the carbon outer platform — Lake has solved the fundamental conflict between stiffness and comfort that plagues single-layer carbon shoes.

### Carbitex Arch Support Panel

New to the CX333 generation and a meaningful upgrade from the outgoing CX332: a Carbitex medial arch support panel. Carbitex is a flexible carbon fiber composite fabric — engineered to add structural reinforcement in areas of the shoe where traditional soft materials can flex under sustained pressure. The arch panel stiffens the midfoot without adding bulk, improving power delivery through the arch and reducing the micro-flex that compounds into fatigue on climbs and long efforts.

### Heat-Moldable Thermaform Carbon Fiber Heel Counter

The CX333 includes an internal heat-moldable Thermaform Carbon Fiber heel counter. This is not a gimmick — it's a practical solution for riders who have struggled to find a production shoe that fits their heel geometry. By placing the shoe in a 90°C oven for four to five minutes and then stepping into it, the heel counter permanently takes the shape of your foot, creating a custom-locked fit at the rear of the shoe. It can be remolded multiple times if needed.

### BOA Li2 Dual Dial Closure

The CX333 runs dual BOA Li2 dials — the most advanced closure system in cycling as of this writing. Li2 dials offer true bidirectional micro-adjustment, meaning you can tighten or release tension in small increments while riding, without stopping or loosening the entire closure. The dials are positioned with meaningful spacing across the foot to distribute pressure evenly — an intentional design choice that differs from shoes where closely-spaced dials create a squeeze point in the middle of the foot. The asymmetric integrated tongue prevents tongue migration and distributes BOA cable pressure uniformly.

### Two Upper Options: Kangaroo Leather vs. Clarino Microfiber

The CX333 is available with two distinct upper materials, and the choice matters:

**Klite Kangaroo Leather with Leather Lining** — Kangaroo leather has one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios of any natural material. It breaks in over time and conforms naturally to the shape of your foot, delivering a fit that gets better with mileage. The leather lining adds a premium feel and natural breathability.

**Clarino Microfiber with Outlast Lining** — The Clarino Microfiber version runs approximately 30% lighter than the leather model and uses an Outlast temperature-regulating lining that actively manages heat buildup inside the shoe. The microfiber version fits slightly tighter and has less initial flexibility than leather, but maintains its shape better under heavy use and holds color more consistently.

### Three Width Options — Because Fit Is Performance

Lake has always led the industry in width options, and the CX333 continues that tradition. Available in:

- **CX333** — Regular width (CX/TX Race Last, standard fit)
- **CX333-X** — Wide width (same Race Last geometry, expanded forefoot volume)
- **CX333-N** — Narrow width (tighter fit across the toe box and midfoot)

All three models are priced at $529.99. All three use the same construction: double sole, BOA Li2, Carbitex arch panel, heat-moldable heel counter.

### Who Should Buy the Lake CX333?

The CX333 is the right shoe for road cyclists who ride hard and ride long — criteriums, gran fondos, training centuries, endurance events. It's ideal for riders who've dealt with hot spots or numbness in carbon-soled shoes and haven't found a solution. It's also the first shoe to recommend for anyone with a wider or narrower-than-average foot who has been told high-performance fit isn't available to them.

At RA Cycles, we've been fitting riders in Lake shoes since the beginning. If you're unsure which width or upper to choose, reach out to our team in Brooklyn, Miami, or Walnut Creek — or contact us online. Getting the size right is the entire game with Lake.
