We stock the full Lake lineup across all three widths, and the CX333-N consistently goes to a specific kind of customer: someone who's tried other high-end road shoes and found that the toe box was too roomy, the heel too sloppy, or the fit generally vague. The Race Last is Lake's answer to that problem, and it works.

What stands out immediately is the double-layer sole construction. Most carbon soles are a single rigid plate, which is great for power but can get punishing on longer rides as blood flow gets restricted at the ball of the foot. Lake's system adds a semi-flexible fiberglass inner platform that floats over the carbon outer shell, allowing just enough flex where the foot naturally wants to move. We've had customers who struggled with numbness on rides over three hours come back after a few weeks in the CX333-N and tell us it solved the problem entirely.

The heat moldable heel counter is worth doing properly. We recommend bringing them in to our fitting specialists rather than doing it at home, because a well-molded heel counter makes a meaningful difference in how secure the shoe feels under load. When it's dialed in, the shoe genuinely feels like it becomes part of your foot — especially once you start to push hard out of the saddle.

One thing to flag on the Clarino microfiber version: it fits tighter than the leather with less give. If you're between sizes or have any width around the forefoot, go with the leather or size up in the Clarino. The leather version is the more forgiving of the two and softens nicely after break-in.

For narrow-footed riders who've been settling, the CX333-N is worth every dollar.
