The Wolf Tooth Aero Oval 110 BCD Asymmetric 4-Bolt Chainrings for Shimano GRX 800 Cranks is an oval 1x ring in 46T, built for riders chasing speed on a gravel or road setup. At 46T it uses Wolf Tooth's aero profile, shaped to sit tight against the crankset for an integrated look rather than a ring bolted on top of one. Wolf Tooth positions it as a racing part and describes the construction as strong and lightweight.
The thinking behind the size is drivetrain range. Paired with a wide-range rear cassette, a 46T 1x ring covers ground close to what a traditional 2x setup gives you, without the front derailleur and shifter. Tooth shaping is Wolf Tooth's patented Drop-Stop design, here in the ST profile, which is cut for Shimano's 12-speed Hyperglide+ chain used by GRX 12-speed.
It fits GRX 800 series cranksets and is also compatible with the GRX 600 series. Like the rest of the range it is 1x only, with no 2x compatibility. For muddy riding Wolf Tooth recommends adding a chain guide or chain keeper and running a clutch-type rear derailleur.
