Moots Vamoots 33 Frame Only Info

The Moots Vamoots 33 is named after County Road 33, a stretch of pavement outside Steamboat Springs that winds up through the mountains, transitions to chip seal, and eventually becomes dirt. That road is the philosophy behind the bike: a titanium frameset built for riders who refuse to be limited by what surface they're riding on.

This is the frame-only version — for the rider who knows exactly how they want to build it.

US-Made Titanium and Six Generations of Vamoots Heritage

Moots has been building titanium frames by hand in Steamboat Springs, Colorado since 1981, and the Vamoots 33 carries the DNA of every road bike they've made. Six generations of the Vamoots name preceded this one — the Vamoots, Vamoots SL, Vamoots RSL, Vamoots Disc RSL, Vamoots CRD, and Vamoots RCS — and the 33 distills the best of each into a single platform built for today's all-road riding.

The frame is built from US-sourced 3/2.5 titanium, the same alloy that's made Moots frames synonymous with ride quality for decades. Tube diameters and wall thickness are tuned by size — not a one-size-fits-all approach to sizing — so that an XS frame and a 62cm frame both deliver the same ride characteristics that define what a Moots feels like. That's a level of engineering attention that's rare at any price point and essentially nonexistent outside of small-batch, dedicated framebuilders.

Titanium's qualities are well understood in the cycling world, but they bear repeating for the Vamoots 33: corrosion-free for the life of the frame, a natural compliance that takes the edge off road chatter and long days in the saddle, and a tensile strength that means this frameset will outlast any component you put on it. You won't be replacing this frame. You'll be updating the drivetrain around it.

All-Road Geometry — One Bike for Every Road

The Vamoots 33 shares its geometry with the Vamoots RCS, Moots' benchmark for balanced road performance. The numbers produce a bike that's calm and confident at speed but responsive enough to ride pacelines, chase wheels, and handle technical descents with precision. In a size 56, the 384mm reach and 597mm stack place you in a position that works for both long endurance rides and harder effort days — not aggressive enough to punish you on a five-hour day, not so relaxed that you feel disconnected from the road.

The all-road intent shows in the tire clearance: 38mm maximum, achieved through the carbon Moots allroad fork that ships with the frameset. That's enough room for 32mm training tires, 35mm all-weather rubber, or a full 38mm gravel-capable tire for exploring unpaved roads. The frame also accommodates full-coverage fenders, which makes the Vamoots 33 a legitimate all-season, all-weather road bike rather than a fair-weather machine that gets retired when conditions turn.

A 142x12 thru-axle rear end and flat-mount disc brakes handle stopping duties across all surface conditions. The 27.2mm seatpost — a classic road diameter — contributes additional compliance at the contact point where you most feel it, and pairs with a huge selection of third-party post options from setback to dropper for touring applications.

Frame Details That Reflect the Craft

Every production detail on the Vamoots 33 reflects the precision Moots brings to framebuilding. The flat-mount brake hardware is 3D-printed in-house, ensuring exact caliper alignment with no tolerance stacking from off-the-shelf hardware. The dropouts are machined in-house at the Steamboat Springs facility to the same standard. These aren't details that show up in a spec comparison — they show up in how the bike feels assembled and how it performs over thousands of miles.

The bottom bracket shell is a 68mm English threaded standard, a deliberate choice. Moots describes it as the proven standard for reliability and serviceability — and they're right. English threaded BBs are quiet, serviceable without specialty tools, and compatible with virtually every road crankset on the market. It's the correct choice for a bike meant to be used and maintained for decades.

Each frameset ships with a Chris King Aeroset 3 headset with integrated Moots spacer — a $150+ component included as standard, not an upgrade. King headsets are American-made, built to be serviced and rebuilt rather than replaced, and a fitting match for a frame with the same lifetime ownership philosophy.

Twelve Finishes, Nine Sizes, One Build

The Vamoots 33 is available in nine sizes from 48cm to 62cm and twelve finish options — from brushed and etched titanium to anodized blues, golds, greens, and pinks, to premium graphic finishes like Apex, Frostbite, Trans Am, and Stanley. This is one of the most expressive finish programs in the titanium road category, and it means the bike you build can look as distinctive as it rides.

The frame-only format is the right way to buy a Moots if you have a drivetrain preference, an existing wheelset, or a specific build vision. Start here and build the road bike you've actually been planning.

The RA Perspective

The Vamoots 33 is the right entry point to the Moots road lineup for most riders. The all-road geometry and 38mm clearance make it genuinely versatile — this isn't a compromised road bike, it's a considered one. The 12 finish options are a real differentiator; customers who've wanted a Moots but hesitated on the brushed titanium look have a lot of room to make this their own. The $5,399–$6,999 frameset price is competitive for handbuilt American titanium with a Chris King headset and carbon fork included. Worth noting to customers that the 68mm English threaded BB is a feature, not a limitation — easier to find quality components for than T47 or PF30, and quieter long-term. Frame-only buyers tend to be experienced cyclists who know what they're getting here; don't oversell it, just be straight about what Moots titanium delivers.
