The Joule is a reminder of how quickly full carbon monocoque construction changed time trial bikes once it arrived. The Ellipse Project shaping at the head tube, bottom bracket, and fork wasn't just marketing language for this frame — building stiffness into elliptical junctions rather than round tubes was a genuinely different approach to handling at speed, and it's part of why frames like this held up as serious race platforms rather than novelties.

The integrated, teardrop-section seatpost is worth calling out specifically. A lot of aero seatposts from this era sacrificed adjustability for shape, but the Joule's full adjustment range means a rider can actually dial in their position rather than compromising fit for aerodynamics. That's the right tradeoff for a triathlon or TT bike, where a rider's holding that position for an hour or more.

The obvious consideration with a frame like this is that it's an older platform — anyone building on it should expect to source period-correct or adapted components in some cases, and should go in with realistic expectations compared to a current-generation TT frame. But the core engineering here, particularly the stiffness-focused junctions and the FEA-developed stays, still holds up as sound design.

We'd point this frameset at a rider who wants a genuine, purpose-built TT platform to build around — someone comfortable sourcing their own build and more interested in a proven aero foundation than the latest release.
