Giordana Women's FR-C Thermal Long Sleeve Jersey Info

The Giordana Women's FR-C Thermal Long Sleeve Jersey is a low-profile thermal jersey for fall, winter and early spring riding. Giordana describes the fleece-like fabric as adaptable across a wide range of conditions and at its best in cool temperatures, and says it stretches to colder rides when worn over a base layer, under a jacket or with a vest.

The 83% nylon and 17% elastane fabric has four-way stretch, which Giordana says aids breathability during hard efforts. The interior is a lightweight thermal microfiber that wicks moisture away quickly. The fit is aerodynamic and still leaves room to layer. Set-in sleeves finish in straight-cut cuffs, and a gripper elastic waistband in the back keeps the hem from creeping up.

Storage is generous. There are three lower back pockets, a zippered pocket above them and a fourth zippered pocket at the side seam, and reflective accents on the hip panels help in low light. The jersey is made in Italy and comes in black, charcoal blue, vino rosso and olive yellow, in sizes XS through 3XL.

The RA Perspective

Cool-weather jerseys tend to go wrong in one of two ways: too thin to matter or so heavy that you cook on the first climb. Giordana's FR-C Thermal sits in the middle, a lightweight thermal microfiber with a fleece-like feel and four-way stretch. It is aimed at fall, winter and early spring, and because the fit is low profile, it works on its own on a mild day or under a jacket when the temperature drops.

The details that make this one practical are on the back. Three lower pockets, a zippered pocket above them and another at the side seam add up to more storage than you would expect from a thermal jersey, which matters when you are carrying a phone, a wind layer and food. The gripper elastic at the waist keeps the hem in place, and the reflective accents on the hips are a small safety gain on dark afternoons.

As for the tradeoffs, this is a lightweight thermal, not a winter jacket. Giordana says it can be extended to colder rides with a base layer, a vest or a jacket on top, which is exactly how we would use it below the temperatures where it feels comfortable alone. The fit is aerodynamic, so riders who like a looser cut should check sizing. It runs XS to 3XL in four colors.

We see it as the long-sleeve to own if your riding stretches from October into April.
