Giordana Women's FR-C Pro Lyte Winter Jacket Info

Built from the line Giordana first designed for its Pro Team racers, the Giordana Women's FR-C Pro Lyte Winter Jacket is a lightweight cold-weather jacket with a snug, race-style cut. Giordana pitches it for training and interval work, and it is designed to be worn as part of a layering system.

Where each fabric goes

The jacket is paneled so that two different materials share the work. Windproof eVent DVstretch membrane sits on the front and sleeves, protecting the parts of you that meet the air first while Giordana says it keeps stretch and breathability intact. Thermal Blizzard Acqua Zero treated fabric sits under the arms and across the back, aimed at breathability during hard efforts with water resistance when the weather turns. Materials are an 82% polyester, 10% Teflon and 8% elastane outer, a 93% polyester and 7% elastane membrane, and an 85% nylon and 15% elastane inner.

Details that matter on the road

Elastic straight-cut cuffs hold the wrist closed against drafts. There are three pockets across the back and one zippered pocket at the side. A reflective Giordana logo on the left arm and a reflective Pixel panel at the tail help drivers see you in bad light.

Giordana says the jacket gives its best warmth over a jersey or base layer. It is made in Italy, available in black, Avio blue and Siena orange, and sized XS to 3XL. Care is a cold 30°C machine wash, then hang or lay flat to dry.

The RA Perspective

Most winter jackets ask you to choose between warmth and breathability. The Lyte tries to avoid that by using two fabrics in two places. The front and sleeves use a windproof eVent membrane, and the back and underarms use a treated fabric that Giordana designed to breathe during hard efforts. It is a sensible layout, because the front of your body takes the wind and your back does most of the sweating.

Giordana built the FR-C Pro line for its racers, so the fit is close. That works well for training rides and intervals, and it keeps the jacket from billowing at speed. If you want to wear a heavier jersey or a base layer underneath, check the sizing first, because the jacket is meant to sit snug and Giordana calls it a layering piece rather than a stand-alone winter coat.

We would be straight about the limits. The treated fabric and the membrane resist water, but this is not a waterproof shell, and a long soaking ride will find the edges. Giordana does not give a temperature rating either, so how warm it feels depends on what you put under it and how hard you ride. The jacket gives its best warmth over a jersey or base layer, and that is where we would start.

The three rear pockets and the side zip pocket handle the usual load, and the reflective tail panel is useful on dark commutes. We would pick this for cold training rides where moving freely matters more than full storm protection.
