Giordana NX-G Wind Jacket Info

The Giordana NX-G Wind Jacket is a lightweight jacket for windy conditions, built around a woven ripstop nylon outer shell. Giordana also uses polyester and nylon blend panels at the back and underarm to wick sweat and move moisture away from the body, so the jacket is not a sealed layer all over.

Light, packable, water repellent

An Acqua Zero water repellent treatment adds some protection when the weather turns, though a repellent finish is not the same as a waterproof shell. A concealed inner pocket holds valuables and also lets you pack the jacket into itself, so it fits in a jersey pocket when the wind drops or your effort climbs. Giordana describes the jacket as extremely light and packable, and the shell fabric is 100% ripstop nylon with a DWR treatment.

Fit and details

Elastic armbands help seal out the elements and keep the sleeves in place, while an elastic waistband gives a snug fit. A reflective rear waistband adds visibility in poor conditions, and a Vislon YKK zipper handles the front. The waistband itself is elastane.

The jacket comes from Giordana's NX-G line, which the company positions as its most innovative and luxurious range, with race-cut pieces that fit close to the body like a second skin. Panels are placed strategically for stretch, protection and ventilation. The sizing is based on men's sizing, and for women's fit Giordana recommends ordering one size down. It comes in black, sizes XXS to 3XL, and is made in Italy. Care is a cold wash at 30 degrees C or lower, with no bleach or ironing, and hang or lay flat to dry.

The RA Perspective

A good wind jacket is one you actually bring along, and that is the point of the NX-G. It is a ripstop nylon shell that packs into its own inner pocket, so it can disappear into a jersey pocket when the sun comes out. For spring mornings, long descents and the first cold-ish miles of a ride, that kind of packability is what makes a jacket earn its place.

We would call out the panel layout. The shell is nylon where the wind hits, and the back and underarm panels are meant to move sweat out. That matters, because a wind jacket made entirely of non-breathable fabric becomes a sauna the moment you start climbing. The elastic armbands, snug waistband and reflective rear band round out the practical details.

Now the tradeoffs. The Acqua Zero finish is water repellent, which helps against drizzle and spray, but it is not a waterproof rain jacket and you should not expect it to hold up in a steady downpour. The cut is race-oriented and close to the body, so layering something bulky underneath will be tight. Giordana also notes the sizing follows men's patterns, and suggests women order one size down, so check that before choosing a size.

We would suggest it for riders who want an emergency layer that weighs very little and who do not want to think about it. It comes in black only, which works with any kit.
