Giordana Men's FR-C Pro Lyte Winter Jacket Info

The Giordana Men's FR-C Pro Lyte Winter Jacket is a lightweight winter cycling jacket cut close for training and interval work. Giordana developed the FR-C Pro line for its Pro Team racers, and this jacket brings that snug, race-oriented fit to cold-weather riding.

Two fabrics, placed by zone

Ergonomic paneling puts a different material where each part of the jacket needs it. Thermal Blizzard Acqua Zero treated fabric covers the underarms and the back, where Giordana designed it to breathe during hard efforts and shed some water in poor weather. The front and the sleeves use an eVent DVstretch windproof membrane, which Giordana describes as balancing stretch, water resistance and breathability. The outer fabric is 82% polyester, 10% Teflon and 8% elastane, with a 93% polyester and 7% elastane membrane and an 85% nylon and 15% elastane inner.

Fit and details

Giordana designed the Lyte as one part of a layering system, so it gives the most warmth over a jersey or base layer. Straight-cut elastic cuffs close around the wrists to seal out cold air. Storage is three rear pockets plus a zippered side pocket. A reflective Giordana logo on the left arm and a reflective Pixel panel on the rear tail add visibility in low light.

The men's jacket is made in Italy and comes in black, Avio blue and Siena orange, sizes XS to 3XL. Machine wash cold at 30°C and hang or lay flat to dry.

The RA Perspective

The Lyte is a jacket for riders who train hard in the cold and do not want a bulky shell flapping around. Giordana cut it close, and it comes from the line made for its Pro Team racers, so expect a snug fit through the body and arms. That suits interval days and fast group rides, where loose fabric costs you energy and traps heat.

The split construction is the interesting part. The front and sleeves take the wind through the eVent membrane, while the back and underarms use the treated fabric that Giordana says breathes better during hard efforts. In practice that means the areas hit by airflow are covered and the areas that sweat get a way out. Three rear pockets and a zippered side pocket give you room for food, a phone and a spare layer.

The tradeoffs are plain. Giordana describes the jacket as water resistant, not waterproof, so a sustained downpour will get through eventually. It is also designed as part of a layering system and gives the most warmth over a jersey or base layer, so on a very cold day plan for what goes underneath. Giordana does not publish a temperature range for it, and we will not guess one. The race cut also means riders who like a thick fleece under a jacket should think about sizing.

We would reach for this on cold training days when you plan to keep the pace up and care more about moving well than staying dry in the worst weather.
